I would have planned better career-wise... made sure that I could coast for a few years after having kids. Our kids came at a time when I really needed to work hard, and that wasn't very wise of me in retrospect.
If you could go back in time and give yourself advice before you had a baby, what would you say?

I would tell myself that there is no such thing as a perfect mother and that even the women who seem to have their sh*t together sometimes fall apart when no one is looking. And I would also tell myself that it's not that easy to lose pregnancy weight (I so naively thought I could do it in a cinch).

If warn myself that it really does go by as fast as everyone says and not to miss a minute.
Also, not to stress as much about visitors after delivery - people were good about leaving us to privacy if we wanted it.

Probably just to chill out with the worry, it really is as awesome as everyone says. Also one billion times harder in ways you can't even fathom, but that's ok. Mostly it's just awesome.

I would tell myself to wait and enjoy several years of married life, going on vacation and having fun as a couple before giving into the urge to start a family. I am glad I did obviously because I adore my son and couldn't imagine life without him

I would tell myself to keep it to one dog instead of getting the second one, it would be much easier dealing with only one pup and the baby. I love both of my dogs, but cleaning up after them is a full time job.

I would tell myself not to get too cocky after making it through the baby months relatively unscathed ... because in a lot of respects, toddlers are harder!

Do not under any circumstance let her stay asleep in my arms after nursing! No matter how sweet & cuddly she is. Do not!!!!

Don't eat dairy while Pregnant. It would have made the first six months so much easier. Then again I may not have made it as I have with breastfeeding if he tolerated formula.

Get out more even through the nausea of the first trimester and ENJOY your pregnancy! Read more BEFORE the baby gets here. And the big one so far... Do NOT try to stick with grad school the semester you give birth, take a semester off!!!

Sit back, relax, & enjoy every single second of the newborn stage. DH was deployed throughout my pregnancy and then for the first four months of DS's life. I spent so many days wishing the deployment would just be over and feel like I missed out on DS being a newborn. It was just hard and I kick myself for it now. I'd also tell myself to hire a birth photographer and to have newborn pictures taken. Oh, and breastfeeding is HARD. Take it one day at a time. It's going to be okay.

Kids go through so many phases so don't worry about any one thing too much because it will be over in a week or so and there will be something else to deal with!

Hang out with friends with newborns or babies. Get a reality check and build a healthy social support system.
