I shared and severely regretted it. People make you second guess your choice or put it down and everyone thinks they get a vote when you share. We stood put ground an. Named our son Tor but with the next one we plan to be mum or give them a fake name to ridicule. The more outrageous the better.

@MrsMccarthy: I don't get why people think they have an opinion. We told DHs aunt the name last week (only because she asked) and she responded "you're kidding, right? Is this a joke? That poor child. ..."
why the heck did she even ask if she was going to be so opinionated?

We were Team Green but we shared our ideas.
@Rainbow Sprinkles: I am totally curious about the name now! I love your dd's name

We aren't totally decided-- plus we are team green-- and we aren't telling people our top choices. The girl name is pretty much a definite but we still waiver on the boy. I do know some people will think our top boy choice is a little weird or unusual, not that it's actually weird or anything. Dh wanted to keep it a secret and since I chose to be team green, he can have this.
So far I only told my sister the girl name in top secrecy and no one the boy names.
@Rainbow Sprinkles: I'm totally curious about your name now too-- anytime people say they got negative reactions I want to know what it is!

i told anyone and everyone but am considering keeping it a secret for the next one. we didn't get many unpleasant reactions but mil made it a little obvious she didn't prefer the name (of course now she can't imagine our lo being named anything else!)

We kept the name a secret from everyone, including family, except for our friend who is an artist and gifted us customized wall art for her nursery, and that included her name.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: people get realy emotional about this stuff even when they arent related to the child. it's so stupid and bizarre to me.
@cheesetomywhine: Thank you! we love it so much and now so do all the naysayers.
ive found that no matter what people will just see that child as what you name them once it's official. I still think you shouldnt tell though

We kept it a secret. It made for a fun sort of "reveal" after the birth even though everyone already knew the gender.

We figured out our name very early on. We shared it with family and friends about mid-way through our pregnancy but we won't publicly announce it (say to FB) until after he is born. We didn't care whether people liked or disliked our name, and if anything it gives them time to get used to it. I wouldn't recommend this if you're at all pondering changing his/her name though. You'd have to be 100% certain it wouldn't change.

We're team green, and we're keeping our name choices secret. We were open in the beginning with names we were tossing around, and all of the opinions (lots of negativity too!) really got old, so we decided not to share any more.

if you keep it a secret till the baby is born people wont give negative feed back because whos going to bash your official babys name to you?
