We don't have any family nearby and really don't have that many friends with kids. So, if you have the same situation, do you have a first birthday party for your lo or do you keep it small and simple with just a couple of friends and maybe your parents who come into town for it?

We just kept it simple for DD's first birthday. We had our best friend's over for cake and that was it. We don't really go in for big parties, anyway, so we wanted to keep it small.

We kept it simple (sorta) and invited the few friends we have in town and our families.

I am going to keep it simple for LO's first bday in a few weeks. Just family who can make it!

The grandparents have been coming into town for LO's parties and then I invite my friends with kids. I'll start inviting kids from daycare next year when she turns 3 y.o.

@Andrea: that's smart. They don't really "know" the other kids at daycare until they're a little older anyways. Do you know the kids' parents at daycare?

Daycare friends and friends from playground/playdates.

We'll have whatever family that can make it and friends. We have lots of friends with kids, though. It will probably be bigger than if we just invited family.

@mediagirl: I became friends with one mom when DD started daycare so they've been invited each year. This past year I became friends with a second mom so I'll invite them next year! I'm acquaintances with a few others now so I would feel comfortable inviting their kids next year as well. I don't think I'll invite the entire class, though. I always have home parties so I don't want tons of people I don't know in my house.

Our families address coming into town for it. I really don't want to open it up to our kidless friends which would become a big beer party, so we are just keeping it small with aunts, uncles and grandparents.
