How do you plan on disciplining them?

For most things we've seen making them sit "on the step" work really well with our nephews. When they aren't listening, are fighting with each other, or doing a number of other things they aren't supposed to they have to sit on a step (or stool) for 5-10 minutes. It's been effective for them because they aren't allowed to talk to anyone or be talked to (but have to watch the others running around having fun) and aren't in their own rooms with their toys.

If it's a severe offense we'll have to decide on something more than that, but for the immediate it's our plan. And we're not completely shutting the door on the idea that there are some offenses for which spanking is warranted (although DH has mentioned that he would want it to be something that happened an hour or two later, not as an angry, heat of the moment action) but it is something we plan on using as a last resort for...well I'm not quite sure what would warrant it yet.

What are you alternatives to spanking? If you're already implementing them do you find the
