Could this be one?
DD had one about a year ago and I remember it being small - this one is HUGE!! Assumed it was a cold sore but now I am not sure - blisters started Friday and with 24 hrs it was huge and crusted.

It doesn't look like what I think of when I think cold sore, but I'm no expert. If it's just like scabby hopefully it's going away, whatever it is!

The white bumpy parts definitely look like a cold sore to me. My family is prone to them and they can spread over quite a big area!

@regberadaisy: ah ok - I thought cold sores were round and small - this covers about 1/3 of her lip

It does look like a cold sore to me, although it doesn't usually scab that quickly for me. But if her lips are also chapped, those factors might be combined. When I have a really bad outbreak (usually once a year or less), I get them over 1/4 to 1/2 of my mouth...it's awful!
Have you asked if it felt tingly at all? Do the white bumps look like they're filled with liquid?

@Mamaof2: they are but a lot of times a bunch cluster together. I've had singular sores that are 1/4" in diameter and bunches of small ones that cluster up to 3/4" in diameter!:(
Poor baby - they're painful. I feel so bad for her! I'm not sure if she can use any of the medications especially because she might ingest some so close to her mouth. There are clear patches that I've found to work really well after the sores have showed up. But they're Canadian, therefore not FDA approved so I hesitate to suggest for your child. I don't know if Lysine supplements are Ok for kids? HBers suggested that to me at first sign of cold sores to reduce the length of them.

My cold sores are massive, though they didn't start until I was an adult. That said, when my kid had a cold sore last year (it was July and she was 13 months old), it turned out it was hand foot mouth. So maybe call the doc just to be on the safe side?

@Jess1483: yes they did start off really chapped!!
Once or twice she told me it was itchy so I bought some OTC stuff but she said that burned so I don't use it anymore
This morning I asked her if it was bothering her and she said no
Yes they are liquid filled
@regberadaisy: ah, so its probably more than 1! Poor kid! It looks awful but she says it doesn't bother her today (see reply above where it did bother her on Saturday so I put some OTC stuff on it)
@Mrs. Carrot: she had HFM 2 times and it was awful awful awful - pretty sure this isn't it - also this is the only spot

Has she ever had a cold sore before? If not, it might be on the bigger side if it's an initial outbreak. Has anyone near you guys had a cold sore recently?

@LindsayInNY: yes she had one a year or so ago?
When she had her 1st one no one I knew I had one but DH has gotten them in the past so I guess he has the virus and passed it along?
