I am 39w1d and am 2 cm and 50% thinned out. A couple of hours ago, my doctor did a membrane sweep and now I am having some tightening/cramping and back pain that comes and goes. Some of it I have had to breathe through.
Is this just a normal response to a membrane sweep (not necessarily leading to labor?) If you had cramping/back pain after a sweep, did it just go away?

It turned into labor for me. I had cramping on and off all day and didn't think much of it until it got stronger and more intense. Then I realized I had been in early labor all day. I had mine swept around 9am and finally figured out I was in labor around 8pm, headed to the hospital around 2am.

It turned into labor for me... after my sweep I went into labor about 2 days later.
I bleed the first night (maybe it was the blood show?) and had mild contractions till the next day and then went to the hospital.

I didn't have any cramping or pain besides the 5-10 minutes immediately after so I would say it's a good sign!

I had some discomfort and spotting but nothing as significant as what you are describing and ended up with an induction. Hoping this is the start of something for you!!

I had contractions that evening, nothing the next day, but then water broke ~36h after membrane sweep.

I had two membrane sweeps followed by 2 days of cramping. The cramping did not turn into labor.

I had a few membrane sweeps where I cramped after but it never turned into anything. With the last one, my water broke about 6 hours later (but labour never started). Good luck!!

I didn't have a sweep but at 37+6 I had a cervix check (was 1-2cm 90%) and that lead to cramping all day that got worse and worse. It fizzled out over night. 1 am on 38+1 my water broke and baby was born that afternoon. Good luck!

After my first sweep I didn't have any contractions, and it did nothing. After my second, I had nothing until that evening and then it was the beginning of labor.

I had mine swept at 39w6d, around 2:30pm.
Early labour started around 6:30/7, lasted almost 24 hours (and it was rough! I couldn't believe it wasn't active labour!) and then my water broke on my due date. Babe was born about 9 hours after my water broke.Good luck! Babe will be here soon!

I started having contractions only a couple of hours after my membranes were stripped and was in full on labor about 5-6 hours later. Good luck! I was only 1/50% at that time.

I had cramping/contractions nightly for weeks before I delivered but the day I got my membrane sweep the back pain started a couple hours later and that was the real deal for me.

At 38 weeks I was 4 cm dilated and had a sweep. Cramping, light spotting, no labor.
At 39 weeks I was 5 cm dilated and had another sweep. Lots of cramping, no labor.I ended up being induced a week later. But I know sweeps do work for a lot of people, only if your body is truly ready for labor. Even though I was dilated, mine just wasnt. Good luck!

Also turned into labor for me. Had the sweep late morning, went into labor (that I was aware of) very late in the evening. Was only 1cm dilated at the check-up and when I checked in to the hospital, but progressed to 8cm very, very quickly. Baby born early next morning.

@simplyfelicity: I had two membrane sweeps with lots of cramping after. First was at 39 weeks, second was at 40 weeks. At the second the cramping went away, but then I went into labor the next day.

I honestly can't remember if I had cramping right after it. I went into labour 12 hours later but I was 40w soIm not sure if it was the sweep or not. Or the fact I ate a whole pineapple that day.

Mine turned into labor too but it was about 24 hours after the membrane sweep that it kicked in. Good luck!

Thanks all! I am feeling crampy again but it might have more to do with the fact that it is 107 degrees today.
@TheSwissWifeStyle: It honestly wasn't that bad! I think it depends on the OB. One OB did a very painful cervical check and the one yesterday was super gentle and did a membrane sweep during the check. I didnt even know! -
@simplyfelicity: good luck. I cramp too from the cervical checks but it never leads to labor just helps progress the dilation.

With my second I had a membrane sweep on the 12th, 2 weeks before my due date, and that night I was having cramping, and at 2am I was still awake and timing contractions. 6am we headed to the hospital and at 1pm she was born!
HOWEVER.
With my first, I had 2 membrane sweeps leading up to my due date, and they did jack squat. I ended up being induced 3 days early for high blood pressure.
Each pregnancy is different unfortunately.
