following! not sure when to transition either...

we moved LO to a floor bed (mattress on the floor) at 15 months. her sleep was always awful in the crib, and we were awaiting the arrival of LO #2, so we didn't really have much to lose in the sleep department. it went so much better than i expected! we did the same as you described above, stayed in the room with her until she was asleep and she actually started doing long stretches of sleep (in her crib she was still waking every 2-3 hours, and i was having to rock her to sleep first). four months later we're still loving the floor bed, but yes, we do still stay in the room until she falls asleep. once we're out of the newborn stage with LO#2 we're going to try tackling letting her fall asleep on her own

@NovBaby1112: Now, naps are another story! And the daylight staying around longer during the summer has given us some tough nights... It's much more difficult for her to stay in bed when it's light enough in her room to see She's getting better about get back in though, which is nice. Sometimes when I get her in the morning she has an extra 4 stuffed animals, 3 books, her water cup, and some random toy. Crazy girl!

We transitioned DS at around 19-20 months from crib to crib with toddler rails because he was trying to climb out of his crib - and getting stuck. I had tried at 18 m but he just wasn't ready so we put the rails away for another month or so and gave it another go. Then we transferred him from a crib with toddler rails to a twin bed with toddler rails just before his second birthday because we needed the crib for DD.

The first time was a wreck because it was all new and I did it in the middle of the afternoon. We tried for an hour to get him to go to sleep but ended the night with the toddler rails in the closet and the crib front back up. That was at 18 m. A few times when I was changig his crib linens I'd leave the mattress on the floor and let him nap on it then put the mattress back in the crib for bed time. Just so he'd get used to climbing on and off his bed. Then on Labor Day weekend, a nice long weekend, we took the crib front off first thing in the morning and let him play with his toddler railed crib all day and he actually napped and we managed to coax him to bed without too much trouble - and we haven't gone back since.
