I have two daughters (2 years old and newborn) and already I have people making comments (ranging from not bad ones to downright irritating).
A friend of MIL said, in front of everyone including my toddler, "The new baby looks prettier and smarter than your first daughter." What the what!?!?!?
In general, people just like commenting on differences between the two girls and I don't like it.
How do you deal?

Um...... while I'm sure your baby will be a genius, I'm not really sure how your MIL's friend made that determination this early on in her life?? People are so freaking weird.

That is so rude and so annoying! It is so unfortunate that people compare. It might be inevitable but it is such a bummer.

It is unfortunate. And immediate. 
I always try to say something positive about the maligned girl, especially if she is in earshot. And, yes, it is passive-aggressive, but I do want to send some sort of message that we have two wonderful girls and we value both of them. It's so much nicer when people can compliment each kid without making a comparison to the other.

I only have one LO but my sisters played a sport and I didn't. I clearly remember a teammate's parent exclaiming that she didn't even know they had an older sister. That hurt.

I have two girls too, and have heard similar comments, but am sure even if I had a girl and boy, there would still be comparisons!

Poor #2 is in for it being compared to his big brother.
Heck, my brother and I were compared a lot and we are different genders and 4 years apart. It's definitely something I felt that I had to protect him from as a big sister.
PS- People need filters and rewind buttons!

Oh my goodness that woman deserves a slap in the head!!! I wish people wouldn't do that. My sister and I went through a lot of that because she was heavy growing up and I wasn't. It was awful for both of us!

Ugh, that's frustrating. I only have one so far, but I distinctly remember as a child being referred to by most of my parents' friends as "the smart one" while my sister was "the pretty one". Not gonna lie, it's played a role in my life...

Haha, I love the older generation and the freedoms they take with saying things that are rude and inappropriate! I address with eye rolls, equally inappropriate!
