how big is it?
Do your dining chairs sit on the rug? Off the rug?
We laid a 8' x 10' down under our dining table and I love that the chairs will be completely on the rug. But it's way too big for the dining area. But if we go down to a 5'x8' then the chairs will be half on and half off. Which will be annoying and unlevel.

Why do you feel it's too big for the dining area?
Ours is 9x12, chairs are on the rug when they're pulled out from under the table.

We had this same dilemma. We went with 8x10 because part of the reason is wanted a rug was that we were scratching the hardwoods with the chairs. It's a little too big, but I don't mind it.

@looch: there's maybe a foot from the rug to the wall. And one corner comes into the natural travel path of the kitchen area into the living area. Hate that.
We love the rug and DH suggested cutting that corner and rebinding it but I'm not a fan of cutting the pattern off. It's not a repetitive pattern.

@locavore_mama: That is exactly how ours is. For the corner, is it tripping you up? I would think you'll get used to it eventually, but I feel like lopping off a corner would look even stranger, unless you did it to all 4 corners?

7 by 9. The guest chairs are stay on the rug wether they are pushed in or out. The host chairs stay on the rug only when the chairs are pushed in.

Ours is 8x10 and it's honestly a little small. The legs of the chairs at the head of the table come off when pulled out.
It should fit so the legs are all always on the rug.

Ours is 8x11. It fits nicely under our table and chairs. If we pull the chairs back, the back chair legs go right to the edge of the rug, if not slightly over. I'm a fan of the size!
