I have a dd, ds and am pg with ds2. I grew up with just a sister but our relationship was terrible throughout childhood and still is! I am so glad my dd has a brother and while I was hoping that I would be able to give my dd the sister relationship I never had...we are having ds2 instead! SO- could anyone tell me what it is like with their brothers? Do you still, as an adult, get along? With their wives? My dd loves her brother and they have such a great bond. Really hope that happens with ds2 and once they grow up.

My brother and I are very good friends. We got along great, and I love his wife and he loves my husband. We live far away from each other so we don't see each other as much as we would like. But we text/email a lot, do FaceTime with our kids, and visit whenever possible. I think when we each had our own kids it helped bring us even closer together because of the shared experience of parenting. Two weeks ago my brother's wife and I both gave birth to baby boys 48 hours apart (and we both already had older daughters).... So right now we talk to them pretty much daily.

My brother (he is younger by 1.5 years) and I fought constantly until I moved away for college. We do get along now but grew up to be very different from each other and have never become close. We talk occasionally and I try to be supportive to him but we have just made very different life choices and he has gotten himself into a lot of trouble along the way. He lives nearby and still hasn't met my 5 month old, actually.

I'm very close with my brother. We both moved across the country to live in the same city and we see each other weekly. His daughters play with my son. We have different personalities, but get along fine and I adore his wife.

I only have an older brother (5 years) and we are close. We say I love you when we get off the phone and talk several times a week. We annoyed each other as kids (of course) but became very close as we got older.

I have a younger brother. We get along well now. We fought a lot growing up. We're friendly but not super close (like if there was an emergency there are 3-4 people I would call for help before my brother). We are very different and have different interests so it makes it hard when we don't share much in common.

3 year age gap
K-8th grade: fought a lot.
High school: got along much better, started hanging out together and melding friend groups despite age difference.
College: stayed in touch online due to long distance, spent time together when home
After college: he went through some drastic life shifts so we have much less in common and he has closed himself off a bit, but we are still close and sometimes he opens up via text messaging or the rare in person convos. He gets along so well with my husband, which helps a lot. I think if we lived in the same area, we would be closer. But we live cross country from each other. -
My brother and I are 1.5 years apart. We fought constantly and very physically as kids. He was a difficult (and brilliant) kid so I think it was him more than the relationship.
We became friendly in HS and college. He started dating and married a very sweet woman. I never would have put the two together. She has made us much closer. We moved to the same area and had kids at the same time.
SIL only has a sister so she kind of projects all these sister relationship things my brother and I should be doing. Like he calls occasionally now to chat about feelings. It's uncomfortable and feels forced but it's probably good for us.

I love having brothers. I have two, one 2.5 years younger, and one 5 years younger. I currently have a stepson and a daughter and my mom and I joke that I'll be totally out of my element if I have another girl--I know nothing about sisters.
One of my brothers and I are very close. We text (his preferred method of contact), every week, see each other whenever he's in town (he lives out of state), and have always been able to talk about anything.
My other brother and I are close, but we tend to butt heads a bit more and don't keep in touch nearly as well. But we're still friends.
Neither of my brothers is married yet, but I've gotten along with most of their girlfriends over the years.

I have a brother and w don't really have a relationship. We send cards on birthdays and gifts on Christmas. That's really it, though.

I have a younger brother. We live on different continents and have very different lives, but we like one another and have similar ways of seeing the world. He followed me to the same university and we have had a very amicable relationship since. He and his wife actually just came to visit for a week and it was great! My SIL and I are very different but get along well. It's too bad we don't live closer to one another.

I have no sisters and two brothers--one two years older and one two years younger. We all co-exist (relatively) peacefully, but none of us are close. I think it has far less to do with gender than personality, though. We all fought a ton growing up, and I don't think it was handled well by my parents (my mom wouldn't ever take a stand and my dad always took my side...) I do not get along with my younger brother's partner (a huge source of tension), and my older brother isn't in a relationship. They both like DH though.

I have 2 brothers. One is 4 years younger, the other is 8 years younger. We all fought a good amount growing up but since college, we've gotten a lot closer. I can see us getting closer and closer as we grow older and get married, have kids, etc.
Sometimes I wish I had a sister but I figure once they get married, I'll get a (hopefully) awesome SIL

I have one brother, who's 4.5 years older than me. Growing up, we fought a lot. In fact, we had a few years where I cut off all contact with him. But we've both grown up, had therapy, and are more aware of how we treat each other and how our family dynamics growing up contributed to things.
Long story short, we're very close to each other and he understands me in a way very few others would!
I often wonder what it would have been like to have a sister, but I have a close & satisfying sibling relationship now.

I have two older brothers. I always wanted a sister growing up. I hope I have another girls so my daughter has a sister.
I get along just fine with my brothers, growing up I felt left out a lot because they always played with each other. I think it would have been different if I only had 1 brother but because they were so close I really just played with the neighborhood girls. We are close now, not close as in we tell each other deep stuff going on in our lives but I am really close with their wives, they are close with my husband, our kids are all close in age so we spend a lot of fun times together.

Shitty. Our personalities are just very different. We were close once as kids and I really do like his current girlfriend and hope they stay together, but he's really self-absorbed and still caught in a party lifestyle and never cares enough to see me or his nephews. I really don't think gender matters so much as the kind of people your kids become and the personalities they have.

I have a brother who's 3 years older and one 5 years younger. I have a good relationship with my older brother and an ok one with the younger. It completely has to do with personality differences. Also, I think our parents parenting style changed by the time my younger brother came along so it has changed the dynamic of our relationships.

I LOVE having only brothers!! I have two, one older by 2.5 years and one younger by 3 years. I was always very close with my older brother. We shared a room when we were younger and never really fought. He is married and I get along well with my SIL--I'm sure that if we didn't live in different states we would be a lot closer. Whenever they come to visit (or we visit them) we have a lot of fun.
I fought a lot with my younger brother until I was well into middle school. As much as I teased him, I also always felt really protective over him. We got to be really close my senior year of college, as he was a freshman in a school two towns over--since we didn't have any other family nearby we spent a lot of time together and formed a real friendship. Now he works in an industry that requires him to be away for long periods of time (like 8-9 months at a time) so I don't see him as much, and communication is always a hit or miss. Since he/we live in a ski town, he plans his work breaks around ski season, and we always have fun hanging out.
And when the three of us (or 5, if you count spouses) always have a BALL when we can all manage to be in the same place at the same time!!

My brother and I are 13 months apart, I also have two younger sisters. I am by far the closest with my brother! I don't have that sisterly relationship with my sisters, we are just too different. We didn't really fight much growing up, and always played together.
When I see DD and DS together it reminds me of us, I'm nervous if LO3 is a girl because all we sisters do is fight!

I have a younger brother. We fought a ton as kids. We're okay now. He calls me if he is having problems but I rarely rely on him for help. We aren't super close but he's a spectacular uncle and I like him well enough lol he's not married so I can't comment on that.

I have a younger brother and we are super close. He doesn't live in our state but we still see each other at least 3-4x a year (visits both ways) and we talk, text and FaceTime when we can. He's very involved in our kids lives as well as his wife now too. As far as our relationship, we've always been close as kids and as adults. We were/are each other's first best friend!

My younger brother and I are 4 years apart, and we've never been close. Even now as adults. I blame the different styles of upbringing for the gap.
Meanwhile, my two younger/est boy cousins and I are super duper close. Like 2 peas in a pod close! The youngest and I are 12 years apart and people constantly mistaken us for brothers and sisters since we grew up traveling everywhere together, even if his parents don't come with!

I have a brother and we are very close. We've gone through ups and downs of getting along, but we always come back to a good place. We hang out on a regular basis!
Having boys worries me. I see a LOT of family with boys who have no relationships and it worries me a lot about our boys and what their relationships will be like when they're older.

@wonderstruck: This is exactly my relationship with my younger brother. The only difference is that he does care about his niece (he's always been really drawn to kids and adores Ruby), but he's not going to skip clubbing to come hang out with her for the weekend or anything.

My brother is 6 years younger than me. Growing up he was "the annoying little brother." Now that we're adults we're very close and have a great relationship. He comes to me for advice on his personal life and we hang out and socialize as friends. He's really close with my husband and adores my daughter. I'm thrilled that we have such a good relationship.

@Mrs. Carrot: To some extent I guess that's true of my brother. I know he cares about them and he shows it when he does see them, but those times are rare. More often than not when he's supposed to see my sons he ends up cancelling because he forgot or being hours late because he slept in and just had to take the time to spike his mohawk before leaving the house or whatever.

My brother is 16 months older and we fought like cats and dogs growing up, but we get along great now! We have very similar interests and personalities, so we just mesh really well. He's also become really good friends with my husband, so the three of us hang out all the time! And he LOVES my kids and will come over just to play with them, which is so sweet!

I have 2 younger brothers and no sisters. Although we fought and argued like all siblings, I loved not having that crazy competitive sister drama that I watched my friends deal with. And we are all super close now. All live in the same small town and we all like each other's spouses. We're having kids at the same time and spend lots of time together.

I have 3 brothers and I'm the 3rd of the 4 of us. Growing up, we had the typical fights but now as adults, we are all very close. And I genuinely love all 3 of my SILs. True, some can be more of a PITA than others but I'm so happy that we're still close. A lot of times, I'd rather hang out with my family more than anyone else.
