If you have a Foscam, was it hard to set up?

Even though I'm the more tech savvy person in our family, my husband won't let me touch his computer or the router. He is determined to set up the Foscam camera and won't use the software or instructions that came with it. He says he found instructions on Amazon's website from one of the users that he is going to follow.

While I continue to shake my head, could you tell me if you experienced trouble installing your camera, if you used the instructions that came with it and if there are any tips you can send my way?

FWIW my DH ordered one and sent it back because he couldn't get it to work! I know that's not exactly encouraging ...

It took DH a while and the app that we use to view the cameras (one per kid) on our phones is buggy. It's cool to see it on our phones but I don't fully trust it and still use our old baby monitor for our infant's room.

It took my husband a while and he's pretty tech savvy. He had a hard time getting it so we could access it when we weren't on our home wireless network. He definitely used the instructions!

Yeah. It's easy to set up...until you have to hook it to your wireless network. Frustrating.... Also frustrating? Support is available from 9am to 5:30pm. That's helpful for thos of us that work during the day.

@plaidpants: I'm still trying to figure this out!

I'm actually the less tech-savvy person in the family but I carefully muddled through it using the instructions. The hardest part for me, besides being able to access it when we're not on our home network was making it so that I didn't lose the connection on the phone app when my IP changed...I got some help with my IT BIL, and internet forums and involved assigning a static IP address.

DH set it up and didn't have any issues.. but I won it from a blog giveaway and it was a middle man company who marketed them as baby monitors so it came with a separate set of instructions that maybe don't come with it off Amazon?? Anyways, I love it and the app works great on both our phones. Hope you're up and running soon.

now that @FutureMrsMcK mentioned it.. he did say he had to use some "noIP" website to address that issue as well...

@scg00387: Yeah, I've tried that as well, no go, but I'm hopeful that I'll get it figured out. DH would like to be able to access it when he's at work, and I'd like to be able to check in if and when we ever suck it up and leave him alone with someone!

@FutureMrsMcK: hmm he said he used this: http://www.noip.com/ and there was a free option, you just have to update every 30 days so it doesn't delete or something?? sorry i'm not more help I love peeping in - and DH can check in on us when he's at work like you said... scared me the first time he did it and talked through it though!

I found it easy to set up - sound not so much.

I put the IP of the cam into a browser and it allowed me to login. Even remotely.

We're still having trouble! Dang IP keeps changing. We're pretty tech savvy but we still need to lock it down!

DH works with computers daily so I was confident that he would be able to set it up without any issues. It did take him a while to get it working and a little search on google to troubleshoot. He is very tech savvy. I would be completely lost trying to set it up myself though.

It took him a little while but he got it working. We still say its hands down the best baby item purchase thus far!

We also paid the extra $5 for the actual foscam app because its better than the free one.
