Nope! Just recessed lighting and a pendant over the sink. I didn't want to have anything hanging over it, just wanted it super wide open! Eta: BUT I have the sink pendant and the chandelier over the table right there. If I didn't have those two I'd probably want pendants over the island.

Yes, we have recessed lighting over the main work areas (and under the cabinet lighting-I LOOOOVE) and two pendant lights above our island. I think it adds visual interest but also functional lighting.

@mrs. wagon: hahah! we weren't planning on putting any hanging lights in the family, kitchen or breakfast nook, but I decided to do some pretty pendant lights over our island! omg so many choices, but I finally picked one out.

I have pot lights (recessed lighting) because I didn't want to create any shadows by the hanging lights.
