This is a spinoff of the thread about #1 or #2 being easier. I wondered if there is a gender aspect to it. (I don't believe that kids or adults are or should be defined by gender roles. This is really just out of curiosity, not to develop scientific conclusions!)

Oohh! Following! Dd was super colicky and high needs. Hoping baby brother due in 3 weeks will be calm and serene! Lol

They go through phases. DD was much harder as a newborn. DS' sleep is generally worse. He has been teething and cranky from it for a long time. DD is teething now and it's not bothering her as bad. At 10 months she is already throwing tantrums about wanting things she can't have (phones, remote control, etc.)

@yellowbird: Same here - if we have another, whether they are a boy or a girl I hope they are easier!!!

My son was a much more needy baby compared to my daughter so far.

I was just talking about this today with someone. They are easier and not easier in different ways. DD(#2) was a better sleeper and more relaxed off the bat, DS(#1) was a party animal at night lol and a little bit more needy. I don't know if that's because she was the 2nd, so I couldn't cater to her every whim immediately since I had a 15 month old at home when she came along.
But, DS, who is almost 3, is way more wild and rambunctious, 'typical boy' have you. DD is sassy and opinionated already at 19 months. She had attitude for days! I don't know if I could handle more than one of her haha

My son was waaaay easier. DD had reflux and now, as a toddler, is just generally more high strung than her brother ever was.

I only have the one, but my sister has 1 boy and 1 girl and the boy was much, much harder. Didn't STTN till he was 2 (her first, a girl, started STTN at 8 weeks), and he has always been more "emotional"--lots of tantrums, defiance, high energy.
She's a child and family therapist so she has a million tricks up her sleeve for handling kids but if it tell you anything about her son, she and her husband decided on a vasectomy before he was a year old. They knew after him they were 10000% done.

On the other hand, from my outsider's perspective looking at my SIL's kids (also a boy and a girl), the girl seems a little harder--she's just more strong willed and tantrummy.

Hmm... my initial reaction is to say boy, but he's also the one giving me more angst these days since he's in his 2's and my daughter is at a great age at 4 (her 2's and 3's are like a distant memory now). But when I step back and try to think about it objectively, I'd say they're about equal - just hard in different ways.
DD was more whiny (don't get me started on the whining), sensitive, and got easily frustrated. She had a lot more emotional needs. But she rarely threw huge loud tantrums (and her tantrums were very short-lived), and she was cautious and clean so I never really had to clean up after her or worry about her too much. She can sit still and quietly color and was overall very even-keel.
DS doesn't whine and isn't needy - he's actually one tough cookie - but he is so physically draining. He is super active, climbs all over things, really loud and "talks" nonstop, really messy and I've found him smearing food all over himself, coloring in places he shouldn't be coloring (couch, floors... etc). I feel like I'm constantly chasing after him to make sure he's not getting into things. His tantrums are louder and more intense too.

ds was easier from birth to 22 months old, but I think a lot had to do with the fact that I wasnt a ftm.
At almost 4, DD is so good and easy (she can be dramatic and emotional though). DS doesn't listen well and loves to keep me on my toes, but he's really chill.I voted theyre about the same!

About the same.
DS was a very high needs, fussy baby his entire first year. At 1 though, it was like he changed overnight and he was an incredibly easy toddler and a pretty delightful preschooler now at 4.
DD was an extreamly easy (other than sleep) baby from birth to 10 months. Now at 15 months she is more strong willed and gets into more trouble than DS ever did at the same age. DS was an incredibly obedient young toddler, DD, not so much.
