Did you continue or wean? I think I will BF for a few more months...16 months is my new goal.

My goal was 12 months. We made it to 15 and weaned. She was comfort nursing and not getting much milk. Weaning was way easier for her than I expected.

My goal was 12 months. We went to 14 and weaned because I had a week long business trip coming up and didn't want to deal with pumping. LO was ready anyway.

I had a lot of littl goals and as each one past the only thing that has remained consistant is that I have not weaned
Here we are at 21 months and the next goal is 2 years.

Haha, yes. My goal was a year - we weaned on his one year birthday. Looking back, I wish I had gone a little longer, but at the time, I was so done.

Goal- 12 months. Currently 19 months and still going. I think 2 is the new goal but we'll see.

My goal was a year, and DD is now almost 17 months. She's still a nursing monster. She asks to nurse about 4 times a day, but I only nurse her in the mornings and at bedtime. I'm expecting our second, and I'm not interested in tandem nursing, so while I'd like to wean on her terms, I may also have to push her along.

My goal was a year, after that I let E decide. We were only nursing before bed because of my work schedule, and he dropped that himself around 15 months.

First I wanted to make it 6 months and once we got there I aimed for a year. We did go through a rough patch before then when I thought he was self weaning but it must've just been a strike. Now at 19 months he still nurses a couple times a day. I'm ready to wean but it's hard to say no! I'm still hoping for him to self wean soon.

My goal was 12 months and we are still nursing at 16 months .... My new goal is to let her wean or to wean when I get pregnant again, which is still at least a couple months away

My goal was a year. She's two and we just started the weaning process. Right now I only nurse her in the morning.

My goal was 12 months. As we got closer to that mark, I realized that all I really cared about was ditching the pump. So I did that as soon as I could... then kept BFing at wakeup and/or bedtime until about 14 months. At point, I was fine being done (I wasn't ready at 12 months).

My original goal was 6 months and when we hit that, my new goal was 1 year. Now we're at 14 months (tomorrow) and still going. I'd like to make it to at least 15 months, but I'm currently pregnant, so we may have to wean sooner (or I may dry up sooner).

My goal was 12 months, and she's now 21 months and shows no signs of stopping. My new goal is 2 years or if I have to go out of town without her this summer (a possibility), I will wean her then. But really, I'm okay with letting her determine when she stops.

Just made my goal of 1 year and now that I'm back at work she's nursing morning and bedtime. I'd like to let her self wean but I may change my mind depending on how long it goes on haha.

@septca: same here re: the pump!! I had a count down to 12 months and took two of my coworkers to lunch to celebrate freedom! Haha

My goal was 12 months and I weaned at 14 months because I was pregnant and wanted to get her weaned before baby came.

Continued. Goals were 6,12,18 months. Thinking about letting him self wean but we will see.

My new goal is two (we're at eighteen months and still nursing 5-6 times a day) and I'm going to reassess then depending on frequency and how A is sleeping.

Goal was a year and I kept going but he wasn't much interested after that. He basically self-weaned at 13 months.
cantaloupe / 6687 posts
Goal was 12 months and she pretty much self weaned at 14 months. LO is a November baby and I wanted to keep BF through the winter to get through cold/flu season but she was pretty much done by January so I didn't force it
honeydew / 7811 posts
Made it to my one year goal and don't know how much longer it will be before he/I wean. We are down to twice a down now

@Adira: Did you get your cycles back while nursing? I'm still pumping and nursing, but I know DH would like to start TTC this summer. I have no idea how to wean DS since he uses it as a sleep cue (bad I know, but it works). And it's the only time he nurses. I pump at work. DS is 9 months old.
I figured I'd have to wean to get my cycles back to start TTC.
My goal was to just get DS to breastfeed at all since I'm the first. When he did, my goal was 6 months. When we hit that, my goal is 1 year, but the pedi told me at his 9 month check up to start weaning him...

My first goal was to make it until my maternity leave ended (~3 months). Then until solids started (6 months). Now I am hoping to get to 12 months but if we get there, I will probably set a new goal to go further. It may depend on whether or not she has outgrown some of her food sensitivities at that point though.

@Alivoo01: My cycles came back at 9.5 months postpartum, but they weren't regular. My first cycle was 43 days and I ovulated on CD 36 with only a 7 day LP. The second cycle was 38 days and I ovulated on CD 28 with a 10 day LP. During my third cycle, I weaned off the pump so that I was only nursing once a day. I ended up ovulating CD 20 and got my BFP.

Goal was 12 months, DS weaned himself at 13 months, and I wanted to stop pumping at work, so DD ended up weaning at 13 and change. The timing kind of sucked, in all honesty, because they weaned around the holidays, and I was still eating like I was nursing twins. Not good for the waistline, I'll tell you that much.
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
I didn't really have a set goal...I guess in hindsight it was just 1 year? we went to 15.5 and weaned then.
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
I wanted to go until 2 years with DD. Went for 28 months. she wanted to go longer, but I couldn't tandem anymore.
I wanted to go to 2 for DS too, but he went on boob strike at 10.5 months. I pumped until his 1st birthday and we were done!

My long-term goal was a year, and anything past that was just lagniappe. He weaned at 15 months (in part due to illness on his part) but I'm pretty sure my supply was low and he was down to mostly one short session a day at that point.
squash / 13764 posts
@rrachael: same here! Still nursing at 18 months but only once a day. Hoping to get pregnant in the next few months so will probably wean then.

My goal was 12 months, we made it, so I stopped pumping and decided to reevaluate at 18 months. I just got my BFP then, so over the next month I weaned since it was so darn uncomfortable.
@Adira: What, WHAT??!? Congrats! Be warned though, this is what 2 kids does to you- you miss out on all the awesome news!!

My goal was 12 months and we're there now. We'll see what happens from here since I just found out I'm pregnant....
grapefruit / 4819 posts
My goal was six months but quickly changed to a year after we got the hang of it and the pain disappeared. We weaned at 13 months as she wasn't that fussed about it and I was 12 weeks pregnant and has zero interest in tandem nursing!
honeydew / 7968 posts
A year was my goal. Started weaning then and fully done by 13.5 months.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
My first goal was 6 months, then I said a year, then after that I said I'd let her choose. I didn't get to do that and had to wean at 17 months which was a shame, as she definitely was not ready, but I did meet my first two goals
papaya / 10560 posts
One year goal, made it barely. I completely dried up at 3 months pregnant.
pomegranate / 3845 posts
Original goal, one year. We've continued and will wean on his terms, unless he is still nursing at 2... I think 2 night be my limit, but we'll see! I treasure our snuggles
