I don't regret skipping newborn pictures. DH took some good pictures with our Nikon. My sister gave me a family photo session as a shower gift so we are going to do that in the fall when LO is more interactive.

I did get them and i am so happy that we did! But the photog sounds a little weird. I would absolutely want the digital files. That's how pretty much everyone does it these days. Don't be afraid to try to negotiate prices!

Our doula acted as a photographer so we have some great shots of her freshly born...but they aren't things I'd display on a wall of my home or anything. She's still has like blood on her and whatnot.

The hospital photographer came in and did a few shots on her second day of life, and those are the ones I've had printed for display. It was really easy to do when we were in the hospital. And I've gone back and ordered additional prints online as the need arose.

We did not do an additional newborn shoot at home. I have no regrets!

We have a family shoot coming up when she will be 9 months old and that will be the first professional pictures we've had done as a family of three.

I have a dSLR, so I just assumed I'd get some good photos of Xander as a newborn, but I was so busy feeding him and then exhausted, that I don't have very many pictures of him. I definitely regret not doing newborn photos.

But your photog sounds crappy, though the price sounds pretty good. So... I have no advice.

I skipped...and I'm definitely regretting it. We're finally getting a shoot when DD is almost 10 months but I miss those first few days.

We didn't have newborn photos done and it's something I definitely regret. I was so busy, exhausted, and overwhelmed as a new mom that I don't have many good pictures of him as a wee one. Definitely get *something* done--even if it's just the hospital photographer. Your photographer's package sounds like a great deal but I don't like her attitude.

Sounds like a great deal $ wise. If you wanted to stick with that photographer, could you perhaps talk to your friends and family in advance about how many pictures and in what sizes they think they'll want to buy and then maybe you can just order the best picture(s) in those sizes and quantities as soon as the gallery is up and have them pay you back?

On the other hand, an unhelpful photographer isn't that great either. I'm curious as to why no tennis shoes, lol. Is there a reason why you really want the 3, 6, 9 month pictures, etc.? You probably could handle those with your own camera or a walk-in studio and maybe that would allow you to find a photographer in your price range who also offers digital prints.

FWIW, I haven't found a specialty newborn photographer who'll give you a shoot and digital prints for less than $500.

@jetsa: that's insane prices. My photog (who does mostly weddings and is very featured on style me pretty & other famous wedding blogs) charged us like 400 for 2 hours and a USB of all our images

Try checking wedding photogs. Ive noticed more are featuring family and maternity sessions to grow with their clients

We took our own using my iPhone and DH's art director skills and I was happy with them. I didn't need much-just something to document his teeny tiny cuteness.

We didn't do professional newborn photos, but I like to think I'm a pretty good photographer (and so is DH) and we have TONS of photos that we took.

My thing with the pro photos: what do you do with them? I mean, 2-3 really great ones framed in the house? Prints for grandparents? And then what? An album could be nice with the newborn ones, but I ended up making a 1st year album for DS with the photos we took throughout the year, and I really LOVE how that turned out.

That said, I will admit that my heart always melts a little bit when I see those adorable newborn photo shoots.
