Would you get help from the teacher after school, get a tutor, ask your parents for help? Something else entirely?

I struggled big time with physics. I don't know why but I couldn't grasp the concepts for the life of me. I asked the teacher for help and I had a friend tutor me and help me study for the exam. I still only came out with a C in the course...but that was my lowest mark ever!!! I had to take physics in university and worked my ass off and got an A! Woot!

During grade school and first year of college, my dad was usually the first person I turned to for help. Later in college, I'd go to my professor after class or during office hours to get extra help.

In high school I went to tutoring after school for the tough stuff (calculus, biochem). Don't think my parents could have helped!

I would ask in this order...my friends, my mom or the teacher!

On another note, during grade 9 math my dad was helping me do my homework. On one of my tests, at the end of the problem I wrote "this is how my dad taught me to do it." My teacher actually gave me a bonus point for writing that and I got over 100% on the test!

I had a math tutor a couple of times. I haaaaated math so much and I wasn't very good at it so that's not a good combination to have.

I've never been a natural at math, but even still I always did great in school and never had to struggle to get good grades. Once I got to Calculus in HS I felt in over my head. I had a nice teacher and I asked her for help after school whenever we had a lesson I didn't really get. She helped me a lot so I didn't fall behind in the concepts.
ETA: Oh I almost forgot I had a private math tutor for the SATs too!

I had a tutor for math in Grade 11, and then in Grade 12 calculus my Data Management teacher was my tutor. It was soooo helpful!

@adnama: What's covered in Data Management? Definitely curious!

@mrbee: It's like statistics! I live in Canada, and to get in to many of the Universities for Business, you need two math credits. So I took calculus and data management. DM is very similar to stats! I barely remember any of it now, but I was good at it, and that teacher tutored me for calc! haha

I had the world's worst physics teacher. I spent so much of that year frustrated because I didn't want to loose my 4.0. My stepdad helped me a lot with my homework.

I just sucked. Especially Algebra. Geometry made more sense to me.
Math was not my area, and even though I magically pulled out a low B, I still had no idea what I was doing. I have no idea how I didn't fail. I never "got it". It never clicked.
I would figure out the answers using totally weird methods in my head, but if I was ever asked to show my work, I was screwed because my work was nothing like the work they were looking for.

science...did nothing, avoid it. I finally 'like' science, decades later.

If I was really really awful in it my parents would get me a tutor.

In HS I hated Algebra 2, physics and chemistry! I would get help from the teacher and also had friends help me. In college I did way better in business math than college algebra!
