You maybe baked too long? Mine are usually a little crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle. I usually do half butter half shortening. Sometimes I think the all-butter ones are a little greasy.

@Mamaof2: yeah, it makes a difference.. if you just use room temp softened butter, it will melt more in the oven as it bakes. If you start out with super soft, almost puddly butter, you are going to start with a thinner batter and it will turn out crispy and thin...

And this is why, like Mae suggests, using a half shortening makes for more dependable cookies because shortening is very stable.. But I like full butter taste myself

@Mamaof2: Yep! That's what the problem was - melted butter = thin and very crispy cookies. Also, sometimes duplicating/halving recipes can make them turn out wonky as well.

You want the butter on the colder side - just soft enough to blend. If you stir everything by hand, they come out better. Double the salt. 375 for 10-12 minutes.

It's a near perfect cookie, in my opinion.
