I think we will try to do something but it may be a stretch. Maybe honor a recently deceased family member by using the first initial?

Personally, I wouldn't choose a random family name of someone who had no personal connection to me just to say I'd used a family name, and changing a name of a family member doesn't really make it their name anymore either, so I would just use whatever name I really loved. You don't need to feel bad about it; and if your child asked you can say, 'we named LOs 1 and 2 after these family members and we named you __YOUR NAME__ because it was a name that (we loved, was after our favorite book character, place that had significance to us, etc).' I think that's much better than, 'We felt obligated to use a family name, so we picked the name of a great great uncle once removed that we have never met.'

Any girl names that could also be a boy name or could be altered to a boy name? IE. Erin to Aaron? Or names that are cute initials like MJ, LJ, TK, etc.?

If I didn't like any of those, I'd just pick a first name I liked whether it was a family name or not. I might try to use a less-liked family name for a middle name.
