For those non-U.S. bees, the wife of the president usually takes up a cause to support. She has no "official" power other than being a recognized person who can drive change.

Michelle Obama has taken on childhood obesity through exercise and healthy eating programs. Barbara Bush was known for literacy, Lady Bird Johnson pushed for environmental causes like highway beautification.

I think I would champion math/science education for girls. There is still a stigma that STEM (Science, technology, engineering, math) careers are more for men. Typically these are high paying jobs and I think if more women did them it would help to close the wage gap, but that starts with education for young girls - before they "give up" on math in early classes because they think it's hard or it's a boy subject.
