@CRGmama: I can't really say because I am newly pregnant with #2, but I always wanted 3 but DH wants 2. That's pretty much the deciding factor. To be fair, he was always upfront about this and never wavered. I have come around to his way of thinking. After struggling to get pregnant this time around, I think I am ok with it.

It sounded really tempting to stop at 2, and it was initially my husband's preference, but I always knew someone was missing.

Well we wanted two and now this second pregnancy is twins. So apparently we are having three.

I love all these recent posts about how everyone decided on their number of kids. I was very firmly in the 2 and done camp a few months ago but have swung the other way. My decision is purely based on my ability to juggle the number of children I have with my job. If I didn’t have to work full time the decision would be easy—we would have 3. I also know I will eventually be able to work part time which is a huge help. There are also certain things I feel more adept at having gone through it twice now (for example, I wouldn’t stress out for several months over not being able to pump enough at work and would switch to formula earlier if I encountered supply issues like I did with DD2).

We’re thinking of having #3 either next year or the following year if we decide to go for it, so we have a few more months. My husband’s work hours are getting more manageable, and we would also likely be able to have the younger two in daycare more often financially, so wouldn’t need to worry about putting a burden on the grandparents who currently watch them 3 days. Having a daycare provider we like, and where my girls like going is a very significant factor.

Also another factor is that DD1 got way more attention as the first grandkid/niece/daughter and it was pretty hard on her when DD2 came along. DD2 didn’t get showered in attention, and my niece was born a year later and they are together a lot so she’s used to a baby getting attention (she’s had a test run as a middle sibling basically). I stressed so much while I was pregnant with DD2 about how it would impact DD1, and that’s not a concern this time.

Taking some time (almost a year now) to not be breastfeeding (so having my body to myself) has made a difference too. I feel prepared and kind of excited about the prospect of going through pregnancy again.

My husband would have 5 kids if I could handle it mentally 🙄

That said there I will be honest and say there are times I'm not sure if I've ruined a really really good dynamic. I don't think so but it does cross my mind. Lo1 and Lo2 are so attached to each other and this has been a bit difficult for lo2 because he's still not even 2.5.
