Do you leave out a bowl of candy? Or just do nothing?
We Trick-Or-Treat with two other families, and last year, we hosted them both at our house. I'm sure this year one of them would like to get the chance to host so they can Trick-Or-Treat in their own neighborhood. Which means we won't be home. I guess I'll just leave out a big bowl of Candy and hope the neighborhood kids are good and don't take a million pieces each, leaving us to run out quickly.

I love handing out candy so much that I don't ever go out on halloween eve. I would love to attend a halloween party or let someone else host a party, but .... who will think of the children!?

We won't leave out candy. We never get trick-or-treaters. Our street is at the back of the neighborhood and people rarely come back that far.

We are going to a neighborhood party at 4 and then ToT. I imagine that we will both go with her. We don't have many kids since our neighborhood is smaller. So I am planning on just leaving a bowl.

We aren't leaving any out. I'm sad that I'm going to miss seeing all the kids in their costumes!

We are in the same situation as you. I'm kind of bummed bc handing out candy is my favorite thing ever. Since our house is super decorated for Halloween we feel that we have to at least leave out a bowl.

@.twist.: @Synchronicity: Our kids are barely 3 so we'll probably only ToT to a few houses and then I'll still get the experienece of helping to hand out the candy at whoever's house we are at. I do love seeing all the littles dressed up.

We leave a bowl of candy out on the porch if we're not there to greet the trick-or-treaters.

@Truth Bombs: That's kinda what we'll do. I take L out for a few houses while leaving my mom or MIL at my house in case any kids come by, and then we go back and I hand out the rest of the candy. That all makes me sound totally crazy, but it's one of my favourite parts!

We leave a giant bowl of candy on the porch. We have had 80+ kids in the past, and last year when we weren't home we came home to a few pieces left in the bowl! I was impressed with how polite the kids were.

We leave a bowl of candy out if we won't be home. We decorate for Halloween, so I feel like I should have candy, too.

I left a bowl out last year but weather was crappy and only a few kids must have come by if at all, no one emptied the bowl either!

Nope - last year I did this and a woman came up to me and told me she saw some kids grab the whole bowl - so they ruined it for everyone else

We trade off TOTing. First DH will go with the kids while I hand out candy and then we switch.
We get too many kids to not give out anything and I don't trust the kids to take one piece.

We left a bowl out last year and had no takers!but we're at the end of a dead end so I guess no one wants to come down our way. Guess I can save on buying candy?

We left a bowl last year - and it got emptied at least once. We had come past and noticed it was low, so we re-filled and in the time we went to about 5 other houses it got emptied. So I think the early bunch did well...
There were a number of houses in our 'hood that left a bowl, some had some really cute signs. I will put a sign out this year to try to deter the bowl dumping.
LO tried to take hand-fulls where a bowl was available and we corrected her each time.

Yea... no. Never again. Like two years in a row we weren't home on Halloween and I put out a bowl of candy. I got home half way through ToT and it was all gone. So the third year it was gross out and I didn't want to sit out so I put a bowl of candy out and just stayed in. I heard some kids running up so I looked out the peephole and the little jerks took the whole lot! So yea. no. Never again.

We only get about a dozen kids, since we live on a cul de sac, so I won't put anything out.

I wouldn't put out candy if I wasn't home. Last year we were out of town and I was sad. I love having kids come to the door.

We left a bowl for some of TOT, and passed out the other half. when the bowl was unattended it was pretzels (bwahahahah) and when we passed it out it was candy. That worked really well
