Not that I encourage this: but we actually have him nutramigen for 11 days until it left my system. They say 2 weeks but on day 11 I got so sick of pumping and dumping that I had him latch on, and he was fine.
Seriously-- after you solve this issue: your child is like night & day. He went from zero sleep and 24/7 crying to sttn (7-8) and a few later at 11-12w he started the full sttn.

Even with nutramigen, it took maybe 48h to see a big improvement.

My daughter wouldn't drink formula so we fed through. It takes up to two weeks but we noticed marked improvement over the first week. Make sure you are pulling ALL milk proteins out of your diet. Can't do it halfway.

@TurtleDoves: Never pump and dump! Your baby may be able to take milk proteins in a few months. For us, Lala was still drinking breast milk after she got better and I was able to feed her my frozen stash!

A good place to start is my MSPI blog post. I walk you through everything that needs to be taken out of your diet. It's not minor, it's a big deal. You also need to cut out soy, because 50% of these babies have cross reactivity to soy as well.

@Mrs. Jacks: trust me, I learned the hard way! He outgrew it by 4.5m. I didn't dump it all, but I did pump the first 5-6 days so sad.

@coacheswife123: yes you can by it OTC. And kellymom has an all inclusive list of things to avoid for MSPI. Printed the list and cleaned out my fridge!

For us I noticed an improvement almost immediately, just a couple of days. Even now if I accidentally have something with dairy he is generally back to normal within a day.

@coacheswife123: are you vegetarian? Because i created a list of tons of nondairy food options if not (I got creative). Maybe not tons but you know;)

@coacheswife123: Glad you got to talk to the doc! I hope you're feeling a little better today. So they don't think there's an allergy? Are you going to try eliminating anyway? Always trust your gut, mama!

@coacheswife123: I think it's better to eliminate both at first and then add back as tolerated. I do believe there is a spectrum, but it's always possible that it's just early in the illness and if you kept on with dairy, you'd see worsening. (we did his because we were in denial a little bit).

I think you can do whatever you want with those bottles. I'd probably just start fresh, but that's just me.

We noticed a difference within a few days of me cutting dairy and soy. I started reading labels and got really good at cooking without either. Soy came back into my life at 9ish months, now she's only nursing every once in a while so I allow myself small amounts of dairy but we've kept her off it up to now.

I believe I saw results within 7ish days although it can take up to 2 weeks.

@coacheswife123: A little late, but it took a full 6 weeks for dairy to clear our systems...he had bloody stools from dairy and it took 6 weeks from them to finally stopped. We fed through it. Make sure you are getting ALL trace forms of dairy out of your diet and not just the obvious ones. You may even have to check into the ingredients of your prenatals or other medications. I know I had to stop all supplements and I could only have one specific brand of my thyroid medication that did not contain dairy and would always have to double check with the pharmacist that I was getting that brand.

ETA: We cut out dairy, soy, egg and peanut the first round and saw no improvement within a week and his then GI ordered the rest of the top 8 (wheat + gluten, tree nut, shellfish and fish). I would go ahead and eliminate both dairy and soy now since they are about 50/50 cross reactive. The Food Allergy Network has some good PDF files that you can take along with you when shopping to help make sure you are avoiding all forms. Also be aware that things like "natural flavorings" can be derived from anything and do not need to be reported so we try to avoid them at all costs as well. If you look at the ones made with whole foods they are usually more likely to be soy and dairy free, but can get pricey. I think there is a more inexpensive brand that is dairy/soy free but I can't remember right now.

@coacheswife123: hehe! I think Target sells them too so if you are ever in a bind and need some fast Hope it helps.

Medicines were one of the last things I remember considering for trace amounts of foods. We could never find a prenatal free of all his triggers so I eventually had to stop them altogether. I hope these work for you!
