If your LO was 95% for height and weight, would you be worried?

    I wouldn't be worried, it seems proportional since the child is taller than the average kid, he would also be heavier than average.

    If a kid is in the 95th for height, it makes sense he would be in the 95th for weight, too.

    I would only be concerned if it was 95th for weight and 50th or lower for height.

    It seems odd that the doctor would tell your friend to change diet. Is this when they start tracking BMI? Maybe according to that the kid could be overweight?

    @Rainbow Sprinkles: that's S, 95th for height, 50th for weight--doc says it's fine! Every body type is just different!

    I haven't read through all the responses, but I don't know what that child's BMI is. That may have been a factor in the discussion.

    Also kids with over nutrition do frequently grow taller initially with big height and weight, but linear growth slows down and weight gain persists. I think that's why it's important for the pediatrician to assess each child individually and not just go by percentiles.
