I just weighed myself, and am freaked out that I gained so much in the last month. I am at 19 weeks and have gained so far 16 pound total. What is the norm? Should I lay off feeding my face?

"They" say you should only gain up to 5 lbs in the first trimester, and then 1-2 lbs a week after that. However, if you're eating well/clean and you're eating when you're hungry, I don't think you need to worry about the weight gain because your body will gain what it needs.
I was in the best shape of my life prior to getting pregnant with DD. After I got pregnant, I still ate well but I gained about as much as you did by 20 weeks.

Everyone gains differently and unfortunatley there are a lot of people who will be mean and make you feel like you're doing something wrong. The general guideline I got from my Dr. is 25-35 lbs if you have a normal BMI prior to getting pregnant. When I tell people that, especially older women of my parents generation, they look at me like I have 5 heads. They were all told to gain 'no more than 25 lbs' and think that is also what we need to stick to. Just ignore them and if you have doubts, ask your Dr. if you're doing okay.
For me - I never had morning sickness so I think I was up about 7 or 8 lbs by the end of my first trimester. I'm 38.5 weeks now and up about 28 lbs. The weight gain has been pretty steady, there are weeks when I gain 1/2 lb and weeks when I gain 2-3. I don't worry about it as long as my Dr. isn't bothered by it.

I lost ten lbs in first trimester. I think that I gained about 10 during the last trimesters. I think I gained about 20-25 lbs total. Keep in mind that the placenta and baby are growing in there too. Baby and placenta does account for some of the weight. It's one of the reasons why you lose so much early postpartum.

I had gained 20lbs at 20 weeks. I was eating well and trying to stay active..my body just wanted to gain weight. I ended up swelling really bad and gaining 50lbs, but a ton of that was water! Don't stress, from what I've seen here on HB, there is a huge range of "normal."

for me so far, each pregnancy has been quite different in terms of weight gain, even though my eating habits etc have remained more or less the same!
for #1 i gained more, just over 40lbs, so i was at 20lbs by around 22 weeks.
for #2 things have gone more slowly (no idea why? maybe chasing a toddler..) and i'm just hitting 20lbs at 37 weeks.
i'm achy-er this time round than last time though, so who knows!!!
you sound like you are doing just fine, so no worries!! it is interesting to note the different experiences of different people. from what i've heard, it seems common that our first babies have us gaining a bit more than subsequent ones :).

I wouldn't be worried unless your doctor says something.
If it helps I took a poll last week about weight gained within the first 20 weeks and it was a huge range.

Just left the midwives office, and we talked about this. She said its so individualized that she would never give a number. She said if I gained 10 pounds between visits, they would be a little concerned, but soooo much happens between 20-28 weeks that a sudden weight gain isn't as alarming as I'd it happened at the end. Just an example. Basically, she said to eat well & exercise.

Everyone is so different. I gained all my weight in the second trimester and now I actually lost weight in the third (even though baby is getting bigger).
