My mom was home with us full-time until I was 2 1/2 and has worked full-time since then. She wants to retire in the next couple of years, and I would love to help make that happen!
Several of you mentioned having SAHM's or moms that worked part-time. Did they eventually go back to work full-time? If so, when?

My mom was a SAHM for a long time. When we entered elementary school, she started volunteering at the school, but would get out when we were done. At some point, she started working part-time on the weekends (or maybe she always worked on the weekends... I can't remember). And eventually she transitioned to working part-time during the week when we were old enough to look after ourselves (12/13ish maybe). And then when my dad got laid off when my brother entered college, she started working full time and has ever since.

Kind of...she was a stay at home mom up until 12 or so years ago, when she became an aid in our parochial school's kindergarten program.

My mom was actually in work full-time from my birth until I was 5. However, she had mental problems that eventually forced her to go on disability. So, she was a "SAHM" since I was 5 and she never returned to work. My dad had his own business for a decade, so she spent a lot of time helping him, but hasn't held a traditional job ever again.

My mom followed us back to work through school. She's a teacher and went from SAHM, to preschool, to elementary ed. At one point she would have had four young girls (1, 4, 5, 9), so working full time just wasn't a good option until we got into the school system.

Not really, not. My mom was a SAHM my whole life. Then, when my dad retired and my parents moved to Florida, they started a little business together.

Mine never worked when we were home. She had part-time jobs when we were elementary school, but we essentially didn't notice. I feel like I don't remember that much from elementary school, and I was always busy at school in the afternoons in high school, but I LOVED having her around in middle school.

My mom stayed home I think until I was in jr high. But during that time, we had foster babies, and she volunteered at my school and church multiple days each week. Once I hit jr high, she went back to work 1/2-ish days so she could take me to school and be home about the same time I was, and by high school she was full time.
I think I'll probably do something similar, but probably start working part time in my chosen field when the kids are in elementary school.

My mom is still a SAHM! I do have a younger brother who is 13 though so she’s more of a SAHM for him now. She does teach CPR and First Aid classes but she does them out of her home and only does 1-3 classes per month. Once my brother moves out I’m pretty sure that she’ll continue the way that she is. She does do a lot of volunteer work for their church, school and Boy Scout troop. She’s always busy.

My mom was a SAHW (stay at home wife) when she married my dad, then became a SAHM when they had me and my brother. She's still a SAHW. When they got married, my dad told my mom she never had to work again so she hasn't.

My mom was a SAHM, but she became heavily involved in volunteer activities when my youngest sister got into middle school. While I was in high school, she took an unpaid position that was basically a full-time job, and then she took a paid position the year after I graduated high school.

No. My Mom was a waitress when she married my Dad and he made enough so that it wouldn't make sense for her to go back to work. She got her college degree about 5 years ago but still has no desire to work

My mom was a SAHM mom until my youngest sister went to college. Then she went back to work teaching part time and still does that. She loves it and is very fulfilled by it, which is good because she isn't paid that much for it

My mom taught high school English and History until my older brother was born. When I was about 12 or so she started working part-time at our church as the coordinator of educational programs. She was still able to pick us up and drop us off at school which was great. She eventually developed this job into a second career and is now very well respected in the field and does work on a national level. I think it was the ideal set-up for a family (at least for OUR family).

My mom was a stay at home mom until I was in second grade, then went back to work almost full time, then when I was in 4th grade went back full time, and my bro and I were latch key kids~
