If you've had your tubes tied, what has your experience been? Has it caused any issues at all?

Zero issues for me. Being off of hormonal BC has been nothing but positive for me

@sandy: thanks. My Dr mentioned that possibility of more painful periods and low libido so just wanting to see what others have experienced.

@jh524: zero issues (its been 5 yrs)
How would it cause low libido? You aren't removing anything just preventing the egg from getting anywhere

I'm considering getting my tubes tied along with my next c-section but I'm hesitant. It's not 100% right? My aunt conceived fraternal twins after having her tubes tied.

@Mamaof2: I don't know. That's just a potential problem she had mentioned thank you, glad to hear you've had no issues!

@artsyfartsy: wow :/. I thought it was 100% but apparently they can grow back together in rare instances. Same here, my csection is in 2 1/2 weeks so I need to decide. Tough decision!

@jh524: Yeah it had been 10+ years for her. DH is open to a vasectomy but a tubal litigation would be simpler during my c section. But if it's something I can't rely on, then what's the point?

I dont know if this is still possible but my mom knew she was done after my brother was born and used the procedure to extend her paid maternity leave. She had a vaginal delivery took her 6 weeks STD and then scheduled the tubal and was able to take another 6 weeks of STD. This was back in 1993 so keep that in mind.

following! I'm interested to hear more about the libido issue. I am leaning towards doing this with my RCS, but not yet decided.

@artsyfartsy: yes but that is very rare!! However, to be honest I have taken a pregnancy test once or twice in the past 5 yrs - cuz you never know!

@artsyfartsy: that's unbelievable! I can't even imagine! My DH is thinking about it but not very hard.
@Chillybear: oh very interesting thank you
@Pirouette: I wonder if we won't really get many responses because this forum is definitely saturated with more pregnant and trying to conceive women rather than the later. But anything may help.

@jh524: very true, but I don't know any forums for post-procreating women! I do question whether the reports of low libido are anything related to the procedure or just women having feelings sort of similar to PPD in that it is (supposedly
) so permanent. I do really like the idea of getting it done during the c section and having only 1 recovery, and my doctor says it only takes a few extra minutes.

I don't know how true this is, but I've heard a lot of the side effects from a tubal are really side effects from not being on hormonal birth control anymore. So women report that they have heavier or more painful periods, wonky cycles, etc. because they were used to what their cycles were like on birth control. That doesn't really explain low libido though (b/c birth control often causes that, not the other way around), but I thought that made sense for some of the "side effects."
Either way, I'm definitely having a tubal done at my RCS next month.

@Pirouette: good point! Yeah my dr said only 5 minutes!
@sharpie: thanks! And yes I see what your saying! Good point! And I can't imagine the tubal making the recovery much harder. How can you really compare

@Mamaof2: @artsyfartsy: @jh524: not rare enough for me to trust it! I have a SIL that is 12y younger than my MILs previous kid (16y younger than DH) thanks to having her tubes tied. I'm leaning towards both of us getting something done so I can trust it more.

@Pirouette: I had a tubal with my c section 6 months ago and my libido is WAY higher than it was. I just had my 2nd period and they are super heavy, but not painful. Recovery frim my c section was easier the second time.

@artsyfartsy: I know someone who got pregnant years and years after a vasectomy so nothing is entirely foolproof.

@AprilFool: That's true! I've heard that as well!
Abstinence it is. Sorry DH. Lol

My periods are super heavy and my pms awful. My doctor said its a combination of adjusting my expectations from birth control and age. I'm in my 40s now and my egg quality is diminishing which she said causes heavier bleeding.
I don't regret it but I sure wish I could get rid of all my pms issues.

@babynumber1: that's great to hear!! Why do you think the 2nd recovery was easier? And libido is higher ?!
@artsyfartsy: lol abstinence it is My DH said if he's getting snipped then were Dtd twice a week. Lol he's dreaming lol

@MamaG: how long were you on bc? That's one worry of mine because my periods & cramps are already painful and I'm not sure i could handle them being worse.
pomelo / 5298 posts
@jh524: I was probably on birth control for most of 18 years leading up to my tubal. And most of that time was on a three month pill so I was only getting 4 periods a year.
I'm going to ask to go on it again this year.

@jh524: I think bc I slept on the couch and wasn't trying to get in and out of bed for 2 weeks. Our couches recline and it was perfect. And yes my libido is much higher. We went from Saturday night scheduled to 2-3 times a week. We haven't been this active since our early 20s.
