how much time do you think you save daily by having one again?
I swear we save at least 1-2 hours daily from having a dishwasher! Higher end when we're all home on the weekends and me SAHM.
Cooking 3 meals a day plus snacks = a lot of dishes!

Oh crap, this reminded me that I meant to call the dishwasher guy...our soap dispenser stopped popping during the cycle...blaaaah. I've been washing dishes by hand which blows.

We are only using the essentials and using paper plates and cups and plastic utensils and I'm STILL spending SO much time washing dishes now. I can't wait to have a dishwasher again!! Hopefully soon!!!

We've been without a dishwasher for the last six months or so. Not sure how much time we lost, I actually like hand washing! I'm weird I know.
We just ordered a new dishwasher today though

At *least* two hours a day on the weekend, and probably about an hour a day during the week. It is so. nice. to have one!!! (We just got one for the first time in my adult life, and I am in love )

@LovelyPlum: hah woohoo!!! I had my first dishwasher experience in my first off campus apartment. Euphoria for someone that cooks as much as we do!
My SIl and brothers don't believe me it saves us at least 2 hours a day. They also don't cook or do dishes!

I've lived my whole life without a dishwasher! Well, we have one now but it sucks so bad we might as well put a cabinet in it's place and have some storage.
Dishes are the bane of my existence, so I only do them every other day or so. I'd say I only spend mayyybe 30 minutes doing dishes, and we cook every meal. I must be really efficient by now

@locavore_mama: Seriously! We ran it twice yesterday because we made such a mess in the kitchen. It was glorious.

I don't know but I don't ever want to go back.

@swurlygurl: haha I HATE dirty dishes in the sink. So I have to do them after each meal. I hate waking up to dirty dishes even more because I'm so not a morning person!

A ton of time, for sure. Probably at least an hour a day.

@locavore_mama: Oh man, then I can definitely see why it takes up so much time each day! I wish I would be better about the stupid dishes, but it's one of those horrible tasks that never ends. Do a whole bunch of dishes, turn around, BOOM a cup and a plate and a knife at the sink... ?!?!

I havent had a dishwasher for several years and i could possibly not have one in my next place. I dont think its so bad. We never let the dishes pile up and i cook as i clean so maybe that helps?

Definitely at least an hour! I cook and eat almost every meal at home.

At least an hour a day. We went about 8 months without a dishwasher, at first I didn't mind washing by hand but it got old, FAST.

I cook a LOT (sometimes i cook/bake after dinner so that's a whole other set of cleaning to do) but we haven't had a dishwasher in the 3 years we lived in this house. I'm sure we'd save a lot of time, but i watch tv when i do dishes and DH listens to podcasts.
I'm sure it'd save us 1-2 hours, possibly 2.5 since we do a lot of washing while cooking.

@Freckles: woman, you cray cray! Especially because I swear there's more dishes involved in Asian cooking!
I think my problem isn't dish washing speed but rather when I cook a full family style meal I want everything on the table at the exact same time. So DH teases me that I use every pot and pan in the house. And I virtually do....

@locavore_mama: DH groans all the time because i'm the same way. I think i always have 4 burners going!

Ugh we moved into a house that didn't have a dishwasher (we are renting) and I thought I would be okay with it. Then we had a baby. I feel like I am always doing dishes! It is never ending. I told DH last night the next place we move into is required to have a dishwasher.

It's just the two of us right now so we don't really use our dishwasher but I'm sure it will come in handy with a kid!

I've never had a dishwasher, and I cook three meals a day. I try to wash throughout the day when feasible. I dread having to wash the dishes at the end of the day. It didn't bother me before, but I cook a lot more now. It's a luxury that I'm considering for the kitchen.

I have never used a dishwasher in my life until I had baby #2! I don't know why I never used it before, but it was a definite game changer. I'm so used to washing dishes by hand and using the dishwasher as a drying rack!

@ms.janedoe: just throw it in the bottom or leave the flap open! Ours doesn't fist the seventh generation tab in the holder, so I just throw it in the bottom, still works! I'm very against hand washing
