Sooooo LO is napping and I am in the living room. I was cleaning but the doorbell rang and I know that it's not my mom or my sister and my husband wouldn't ring the doorbell. I haven't showered yet today and I've been cleaning so I look like a mess! And that's why I'm hiding from whoever is at the door haha. I'm sitting on the floor killing time on HB until I'm sure they're gone!

guilty as charged...i need to get a peep hole installed on our door...my brother has a camera monitor on his front door so whenever some one rings the tv flashes to show who is ringing the door bell...

@RunningElley: I have totally done this . . . although I should add that my front door is glass, so, yeah . . . I have ducked under the dining room table or hugged a wall or two more than once!

@MsLipGloss: I was headed to the trashcan which is in the kitchen right next to the front door with windows so I practically dove into the living room haha. How adult of us

Guilty as charged! Thankfully we have a peephole and visitors can't see in so I usually sit on our stairs till their gone

I never answer my door unless I"m expecting someone! I don't get any solicitors since I live in an apartment building and people would just call the cops on them immediately, but my door gets buzzed by accident every once in a while and I just ignore it

I do this! Pretty much all time. If I'm not expecting you, I will probably hide from you. I've had friends text me to let me know it's them, lol.

@msmay: I figured if it was someone who really knew me they'd text or call to say "Crazy lady, I see your car in the driveway- let me in!" haha

I do this all the time! It's good to know it's not weird - I pretty much never answer the door if I'm not expecting someone! I will even go upstairs and peek out the window to watch them leaving to see who it was. hahaha

Ha! I'm guilty of that too! I try to see who it is from the windows without being seen. And I also try to tip toe, so they don't hear me bound up the stairs to see who it is!
ps...I feel like it's just like not answering the phone. It's your prerogative! It's your house

I usually do but if DD is home and someone rings the doorbell, she runs over and looks out the window beside it (we need to break her of this habit). Although once when I was avoiding the doorbell the person rang it again so I figured I had better check since that was unusual. Turned out my neighbor had accidentally gotten locked out of her house while putting garbage in the garage trash can and her LO were inside; very glad I answered the door that time.

Lol yes! The first 2-4weeka after LO was born, I'd get visitors without any notice! I'd be a hot, breastfeeding mess and I would be trying to relax while LO slept & I'd get a knock on the door. I'd quickly peek to see if it was my mom,mil or sister and if it wasnt then is just sit there on the couch, staring at the door unt they left haha.
I felt bad because ice it was the edible arrangement guy dropping off a huge bouquet of fruit. I had to pick up the order from the store later because "I wasn't home" when they came:( oops

I've jumped onto the living room floor a time or two before. Especially if I wasn't expecting anyone. My take on it is- if they know me, they'd call first!

I will go to the front door, look at who is there, and if it is anyone besides UPS, FedEx, etc, I point to the "No Solicitors" sign and walk away.

I really should. I live in an apartment community where kids are always going door to door looking for some sort of donation and I'm really tired of it. There's tons of kids, so if I start giving to one, they'll all expect it. I need to learn to hide. And move!

Hahahahaha! All of you are making me feel SO much better because I am a master doorbell-avoider and my DH thinks its weird. I'm excited that when the baby arrives I have an excuse to disable the darn thing.
@TurtleDoves: That is my worst fear! I don't do well with unexpected visitors in the first place, and I can only imagine that I'll be more upset about it after I have the baby. Was it really that bad?! Eeek. Due to DH's job we will have a lot of people who want to visit, but if they come unannounced I might have to harm them.

I do this all the time! Especially if I'm home alone - I just mute the TV and wait until they leave! It's usually just the mailman though, haha.

The equivalent in our apartment is when the phone rings in the evening. DW and I look at each other with the same "who can that possibly be?" expression, and we invariably let the call go to the answerphone. Hiding from calls, I guess!

Ugh, posted too fast!
People ONLY ring the bell once he is asleep, which sets off the dog! I feel a little bad, I yelled at some PBS volunteers for ignoring the signs for soliciting and no doorbell. Somewhere in my rant I told them I had higher expectations and knew they could read since they worked with PBS. I really need to unhook the doorbell, it only causes problems!

I never answer the door if I'm not expecting someone. We have a peep hole so I'll check to see if it's just UPS or something but if not I don't answer. My husband will if he's home with me. I actually had an unknown woman ring my door bell yesterday. I was PISSED because she rang it TWICE and made my dog go bat shit crazy and wake up the baby. I almost opened the door just to tell her off!

@lemondrop: I'm totally unhooking ours once baby is born. We have two yorkies who go batshit crazy when they hear a doorbell ring (even if its on a commercial! damn you Dominos commercials!) and we haven't been able to train it out of them. We have a neighbor who rings our doorbell instead of calling our phones even though she has BOTH our numbers, and it makes me insane.

I never answer the door. I'm always a hot mess (hair sticking up, no bra). until about 2pm and nobody wants to see that! Heck, I don't answer the door after 2pm either!

i've totally done this. and more often than not, i don't answer the phone! especially if i don't know the number/name on the caller id. if it's important, then leave a message!

Absolutely, we're in a rental home and we've had a few people come up and ask if Mr or Mrs XYZ are home because they have orders to serve them. I leave a signed note for UPS or FEDEX if I'm expecting something, I don't open the door unless I know you're coming. I am the master at quietly running and contorting myself so I can see who it is! I don't answer the phond if I don't recognize the number, they can leave me a voicemail.

YES! I do this all the time. Basically if anyone stops by unannounced, I just stop what I'm doing and sit down and wait for them to leave! I feel bad but geez, you could call first. If I'm at home I usually look like a mess and am not ready for visitors!
I'll only get the door if there's a UPS/Fedex truck outside, or if we ordered food.
