I'm Officially ALONE w/Baby!

My IL's have officially left the nest and DH is at work. I'm officially ALONE with the baby now! She's 3 weeks, but anytime I've been alone with her so far has only been for a few hours at most. I'm not too worried, though DH is a little.

My ambitious goal today (or tomorrow) is to try and go out to the mall! (I want to hit up the Gap sale and get some maternity bras.)

It will be our FIRST time in the car by myself with her and obviously, going somewhere with her. I'm a little nervous about the car ride, as half of the time we've gone on car rides, she will cry inconsolably in her car seat. I've got to do it sometime though right? Just gotta wait for her to wake up, feed, change, and try to get out!

Any tips? Suggestions? When did you venture out by yourself with the baby? Wish me luck!!!

good luck! my first trip out alone with baby was her weight check at 2 weeks I think! but, my LO loved her carseat so it wasn't bad. does she use a sleep sheep or anything that you can attach to the carseat?

Do you have a car seat cover? Putting one over her will help her relax so she's not overstimulated and help to keep germs away from her since she's still so tiny. If you aren't comfortable nursing in public definitely bring some pumped milk even if you don't think she'll get hungry while you are out and about. But at that age she'll probably sleep for the whole adventure so you should be fine!

good luck!!! i felt like super woman the first time i took LO grocery shopping. and felt amazing after i mall walked with him for a few hours... it gets easier every time out, so the eearlier the better! (weather permitting, which im sure is amazing in socal!)

I took R out myself for the first time this week, doctor and chiropractor. Next week I want to try something more, like Carter's to return some stuff. So nerve racking!! I can't wait till I feel more comfortable.
The car seat cover is great for keeping people from touching her!

You're going to do great!! It really does get easier and easier, and I agree with having a blanket to throw over her if she's getting overstimulated. We loved the A&A blankets for that.

Good luck! You're braver than me. I don't think I left the house solo with him until he was 8 weeks old! He hated his car seat and by the time I got us all ready to go, I was too tired to go anywhere. It does get easier and easier tho.

@sorrycharlie: That was a GREAT idea! IDK if it helped, because the Sleep Sheep at home doesn't seem to do much for K, but I brought the Sleep Sheep On The Go with us and she slept the whole car ride! Whew!

Update: First trip out was a SUCCESS! I mean, I still feel like I'm going to have a heart attack at any given moment, but I'm calling it a win! She slept the whole car ride there and back, which was no small feat since by the time we got out it was 5 o'clock and prime traffic time! *doh!* I won't make that mistake again! Took over half an hour to get there! Made it through our 2 stores and I didn't want to push my luck on our first outing - tried to make it home before the 3 hour feeding mark and she is still asleep! Dare I try to sneak in a quick dinner for myself now too! Now if only I could relax a little more, but I think that comes with time and experience...

@shopaholic: so glad it was a success! I am jealous you can time her feedings. R is so spontaneous with her eating which makes me so nervous to go anywhere.

@Smurfette: Oh no no no... I cannot "time" her feedings. I just know that she will want to eat sometime within a 3 hour mark. It could be 20 min. after her last feeding or 3 hours... SO unpredictable! Beyond 3 hours (besides in the early mornings), and she'd probably scream her head off!

Yay! We went out on day 8 alone for the first time. And every day ever since! It only gets easier

The mall is a great place to go because there are lots of places to nurse (any dressing room will do!)

My first time alone with her was 3 weeks too, and that was when I started SAHM-hood! It went ok until I pushed it too far (too long.) However, after a few weeks of being the sole caregiver I wound up with full blown PPD (which started from the very beginning) so still take whatever help you can get. (I tried to do it all.)

Congrats on a successful first outing!! The relaxation DOES come with time. Plus, they just get easier to take out as they get older.

I started going out with DD around 3 weeks (she is 8 weeks now).
Three weeks is when DH left for deployment as well and I have been on my own since. Its intimidating at first but before you know it you wont bat a lash over the idea!!!

Yay super mama! It it's definitely trial and error those first few weeks. I was very nervous since in his first 3 weeks I'd never been all alone for very long, let alone left the house alone with him either!

The first time I took LO out to target she had a huge blow out, bring some extra clothes and plastic bags just in case. Give us an update on your outing and I would love to see what you bought!

Thanks everyone! I think I jinxed myself with a successful first solo outing! Today's second attempt did NOT go smoothly. Let's just say I was exhausted, poor K cried her little lungs out on the drive and we just went a few miles away from home.

* Our PRIZE though yesterday for making it to the mall - these Baby Gap polka dot pieces! (and a few boring nursing bras for mama).

@Mrs. High Heels: Yes! I must have been CRAZY! Drove there local since I was too scared to get on the freeway with her yet. Lesson learned: Do not leave the house after 3 or 4 pm! lol!
