Well at least it's nice that she cares so much and seems so excited about your LO's first Christmas even though she has 6 other grandchildren.

I know how you feel. I had to talk my ILs out of throwing a 1st bday party for my son! Agree that you should use the jammies/whatever as it suits you

My mom gets excited and can act in a similar way . I just have to remind myself that we're blessed to have their love and generosity. After all, DD is not going to care or remember who purchased her first holiday dress.

I'm in the opposite boat with my in-laws, as DD is the seventh grandchild for them, and most definitely an old hat. I would be thrilled if they showed more interest!

@cmomma17: I"m the same way. MIL ALREADY bought him his first First Christmas ornament (like, for my baby shower, a year ago). I still don't even want to get it out and put it on the tree. I want to buy his First Christmas ornament, dammit! I bought a Christmas outfit at a consignment sale back in August just so that I could buy him his first one, ha ha. It's totally selfish and petty and I'm fully aware of that but I don't care. He's my first baby and gosh darnit, buying those "firsts" is my job - you bought your "firsts" already - THREE TIMES! Back off, lady!

Just remember their Christmas with him are more likely numbered, so let them enjoy him at this young age and get pictures and make memories that he will be able to carry with him as they get older.

@MsLipGloss: I have a friend whose MIL took her son to the zoo for the first time, after my friend specifically asked her not to. My friend was sooooooo pissed! I'd freak if my MIL did that!

I always feel conflicted. On one hand, when she spoils LO I am so annoyed that it was something I wanted to give her, then when she doesn't offer to buy something for LO I'm like "oh, my LO isn't as important as your other grand kids?!" Haha. Poor MIL.

We have a first grandchild on both sides, and I sometimes feel a little trampled and non-generous with her too.

My MIL bought her stocking, my mom bought her first ornament and her first Halloween costume, and my FIL fed her solid food when I wasn't looking (whip cream at three weeks old, no less, so I feel justified being annoyed about that).

I feel bad that I sometimes am more generous with my own family - For example I invited my mom to come with me for her Santa picture, and gave her permission to buy LO's Christmas eve PJs, since she buys them for me and my siblings/spouses/dad already - and my husband always wants me to remember that his parents are 15 years older than mine, and wants them to get first dibs at being included with her now, because in all likelihood, they'll only be around another 10-15 years, and only healthy enough to really interact with her for a short time.
