As some of you may know, we welcomed our beautiful little boy into this world at 8:01 pm on Father's Day. We had the typical first few days of parenthood and spent most of our time staring at our son, dealing with visitors, adjusting to no sleep, and enjoying being new parents.

Brady was released from the hospital on Tuesday morning and we brought him home. They removed his cord clamp right before we left. When we got home, and changed his diaper, we noticed two little red bumps where his clamp was. At the time, we brushed it off as skin irritation from the clamp.

The next day, we took him for his first pediatrician appointment and the pediatrician was a little concerned about the bumps. He had also lost a significant amount of weight (it took a long time for my milk to come in) so she asked us to come back on Friday to reevaluate.

On Thursday night, we noticed more red bumps on his inner thighs. As new parents, we were concerned, but thought maybe it was just a reaction to his diapers. However, when we took him in for his appointment, the doctor seemed really concerned and brought in another doctor to check him out.

Both doctors agreed that our little angel had some sort of bacterial infection. She advised us that she would be calling the ER and that we would need to take him over right away. She said they would do some blood tests, most likely keep him 24-48 hours, and he would probably need a spinal tap. He was 5 days old! That is too much for such a sweet, tiny boy!

Needless to say, I was in hysterics. I'm supposed to be able to freak out over a cough or runny nose before I have to worry about a life threatening infection.

The hospital took a urine sample (my poor baby had to get a catheter) and some blood samples. We waited anxiously for about an hour for preliminary results. Luckily, he had no fever and when the blood came back his white blood cell count was normal. So, whatever it was, it most likely hadn't entered his blood stream yet.

They then took cultures of the area and told us they were going to admit him. However, they agreed to avoid a spinal tap unless they felt it completely necessary. They started giving him a topical antibiotic every 3-4 hours and checking his vitals and temp every hour. His vitals were great the whole time and he never developed a fever. They even suggested that it could potentially be an allergic reaction to his dipes which really got our hopes up.

The next morning, the culture came back and killed our hopes, his bumps tested positive for staph. At this point, they still didn't know if it was regular staph or mrsa. They told us they'd call if it came back positive but wouldn't if it was negative. They wouldn't know until this Monday at the earliest most likely though.

Luckily, they let us bring him home. He is acting normally. He eats, pees, and poops like a champ (my milk finally came in-woot!) The bumps appear to be drying out some as well. We are still absolute wrecks though. I am so terrified that it is going to come back as MRSA and that his little system won't be able to handle it. He is only 6 pounds. His is so sweet, innocent, and tiny.

I never knew that I could love like this. This little boy is my world. I can't imagine anything happening to him. So, although it seems as if things are improving, I ask that you please send lots of good thoughts and/or prayers his way. This has been the scariest few days of our entire lives.

Because of all the drama, I was never able to post his birth story. I do have a few pictures though so you can see the little munchkin who has stolen my heart!
