B is crying so loud and won't stop. not sure why. im heartbroken. daddy is trying to calm him. I gave him some Advil in case of teething, but he already has 5 teeth and we never had this!
any suggestions? thoughts? I'm crying myself knowing something is upsetting him and he can't tell us why.

Oh, poor B! Hopefully the Advil helps calm him down. Not knowing why LO is crying is the worst.

@wheres_c: could it be gas? Was he cold today? Did he eat something gassy?

@TurtleDoves: he's never had gas issues before... it was 80 here today...
he did have a choking incident earlier where I had to do a smack on the back and sweep of the mouth.
could a mini cheeze it type cracker have scratched his throat?

M did this at 12 months and I spotted a brand new molar in her mouth while she was crying. She also spiked a fever later that night. I'm not sure if the two were related, but I haven't heard crying like that since she was a colicky newborn.

@wheres_c: check fingers and toes for hair wrapped around one of them. Are you still nursing? Would that help? Or maybe get in a warm bath with him.

@wheres_c: To be sure, strip your baby and make sure nothing is pinching him. LO was crying like this a few months ago, and we didn't know why (he was even crying while I was nursing him), and it turns out his little toe was bent funny in the foot of his pajamas. I felt so bad! But wouldn't have found it if we didn't take off his PJs to check and make sure nothing was wrong.

he finally fell asleep but now I'm worried to go to sleep. we put him in our room to keep an eye on things. I hate not knowing what was wrong.
no sign of any hair or pinched toes.
@MrsF: when did the molar show up (what tooth #?) he has 6 teeth.... 4 upper front, 2 lower...I checked to see if the other two l lower were there but didn't think to check for upper molar

@wheres_c: It was M's 9th tooth (she had all 8 front teeth). It's the bottom left molar. I'm guessing it would be pretty unusual for a molar to come in before the bottom four were all in. Maybe he's getting a third tooth on the bottom and it's just particularly bad?

J did this a few days ago and I never figured it out. However, hand, foot, mouth has been going around her school and now I have a bunch of ulcers on my tongue (but no other symptoms)... one theory i have is that maybe we both have a mild case of that and she has ulcers I can't see??? Otherwise I blame teething??

@wheres_c: When A does this, we take her outside. Also, lightly blowing on her face will force her to take a breath. I've found that sometimes I can do that a few times in a row to help her calm down. It doesn't always work, but it does force her to breathe more.

I have had this too and a friend suggested putting on a video when I couldn't figure out what was wrong. We don't normally allow screentime and that calmed her down.
