Just got back from my HSG. It didn't hurt much (minus some little cramping) and the radiologist said everything looks perfect. Yay! Finally some good news. Still waiting on lab results for DH though..we check them about once an hour lol.

Your prayers worked! Dh's test results came back negative! We are over the moon relieved and I really appreciate all of you being there for me during this stressful time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

@marionberry: I'm waiting to hear back from the nurse yet again...after I did my injections last night, I had a major allergic reaction. A rash spread across my belly right away and then I had horrible diarrhea and came really close to projectile vomiting - basically a typical food allergy reaction for me. So I looked at the ingredients in the meds and realized there was a coconut-derived ingredient in both! (Which I'm allergic to, and the doctor knew, but of course who would think to look it up.) This is seriously the story of my life.

@Spaniellove Ugh, I'm sorry, can't believe the Dr or nurse didn't catch the coconut thing! How horrible to have a reaction like that, I'm sorry...

@Marionberry That is great news about your DH!!

@spaniellove: I'm so sorry! I spent yesterday morning vomiting up the doxycycline they gave me for the hsg so I totally get it! Will they reimburse you for the meds because they didn't catch it?

    @trailmix,@mrs.someone: thank you thank you!

@spaniellove: Ugh, thats an awful mistake they made! Wish there was a magical third fertility clinic in your area...

@marionberry: I'm still waiting to hear back from them, but in the meantime I asked my allergist for more Epipens. Don't know what they'll do because the IVF nurse told me yesterday they don't want me taking Benadryl. And if I can't take these, I can't do IVF or pretty much any injectible protocol that would work for me, so this would be just about the end of the road.

@marionberry: Congrats on the great results!!!!

@spaniellove: that is horrible. your doctor should have checked the ingredients! There must be some sort of other protocol that you can do.

  12. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@spaniellove: don't give up yet. You can't be the only person with drug allergies needing to do IVF. I saw your post on Benadryl so I'd ask them why they're so against it (since many women seemed to have been able to take it while pregnant). In the meantime try to keep up hope. I just know things will work out!

@justdarling: Thank you! DH was crying from happiness when he called me about them at 5am this morning. What a huge relief! There certainly are Christmas miracles and I'm hoping baby marionberry will be the next one.

Well, they offered me 2 options: 1) cancel the cycle or 2) come in and trade my meds for Follistim - which sounded good at first but then I realized it has the same ingredient, so this isn't an option. So in reality my options are to just suck it up with the reactions and hope it doesn't affect my chances too badly, or cancel the cycle. But I don't think I could risk having this happen with IVF so I am really really disappointed.

Ugh, I need to vent. Some friends are going in together on a group gift for a baby shower. The friend organizing is going to be out of town, so she sent it to my house. She didn't know that I'm sensitive at the moment though Hopefully I can hide it so I don't have to look at a huge baby thing around my house for a few weeks.

After a lot of arguing with the doctors and nurses at the clinic, I'm trying the meds for one more night because I'm not ready to cancel the cycle (and basically give up on all treatment) yet. I did my shot an hour ago and so far just a rash that came and went. My thinking is that if I'm extra super careful about everything I eat and come into contact with, I might be able to tolerate this, because my allergist told me I get overloaded with allergens.

@Mrs.Someone: That has to be so tough...and yet tempting. Hide that thing quickly!

  17. Mrs.Someone

    pomelo / 5228 posts

@spaniellove: Glad to hear it was just a brief rash, hopefully that means this cycle is still a go! Not to be too preachy, but acupuncture or a naturopath might be something to look into, since they try and stay away from drugs?

And yes, that thing will get hidden ASAP! Hopefully it is in a non-nondescript box that I don't even have to open.

  18. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@Mrs.Someone: I've been considering acupuncture to help with IVF - there's someone in the area who actually comes to the clinic on transfer day. Maybe he can do something about my out of control immune system.

@spaniellove: I start tonight! So glad it all arrived, the pharmacy sent it 'signature required' even though I had told them not to. Fortunately after an hour on the phone with customer service, UPS was able to contact their driver and change so that it could be left without signature.

@kentuckygirl: Good luck! It gets much less scary after the first day. And I found the insert in the Menopur box to be really helpful in figuring out when things needed to be pointed up or down while working with the Q-cap. That must have been nerve-wracking dealing with the delivery!

    Repost from Charters:

Hi everyone! Sorry I checked out briefly. It was all becoming too much and I felt very depressed and alone. I went for counseling at our church, and met with my GP for help (which went horribly and I am never going there again). He appears to think that a) PCOS only happens to "fat women so I need to lose 10-15 pounds 2) my due date shouldn't matter 3) that my OBGYN indulged me by giving me clomid and sending me to a RE 4) that I am crazy, and it's my fault I'm not pregnant, I should consider going back on BC and working on me. Real prize right? He was super judgemental and mean. He said I have an unrealistic timeline in my head of how long it takes to get pregnant. Well sir, in Jan I will be of BC for 1 year and it's been 7 months since my mc, oh and there is a REASON I'm not getting pregnant. It's called PCOS. He asked why we are having sex EOD for the whole cycle. He said that is "stupid" and to just have sex during my ovulation window. Yeah, duh, if only I knew when that would be! UGH!

However, yesterday AF was a surpirse vistor which does make me feel a little less crazy! It also gives me a normal cycle at CD 31. I'm not sure if I ever O'd or not, but it doesn't matter. Only two more weeks till I get to meet with my RE and I will start clomid Christmas day for this cycle.

Any feelings on if I should be using the monitor or not? I really want to again, but I keep reading it doesn't work for women with PCOS. Thoughts?

  28. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@ladybee: Since you had a normal cycle length this time with unknown ovulation maybe use the monitor but my thought is perhaps you should reset it first? If it's not thinking you'll ovulate until much later you may miss your fertile window because it hasn't even asked for a stick yet. However that could mean wasting up to 20 sticks.

@ladybee: I am so very sorry. Hugs! Good luck with this cycle.

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@ladybee: I'm sorry I don't have any advice to give you about the clomid and monitor! But at least you have AF back on track. And you're going to see the RE very soon. That GP sounds totally ridiculous; sorry you had that experience!

I was so relieved to hear after this morning's u/s that I have 8-10 follicles! Obviously they won't all mature, but that's still some kind of response to the stims compared to the 5 follicles I started with a few days ago.

  31. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@spaniellove: that's great news! My u/s today showed one mature and two almost mature follicles. We trigger tonight and iui Wednesday morning. It's finally starting to feel exciting.

    @marionberry: yay! Good luck!!!

  33. kentuckygirl

    pear / 1786 posts

@spaniellove: Wow 8-10! I had four on my baseline & was worried about multiples. I don't know a lot about how the injectables affect the variations of follicles throughout the cycle. How likely is it that you could end up with 8 mature follicles?

Do you all worry about triplets + ? I do. I would be happy with twins although even that would be challenging. I feel bad for saying it, but the idea of triplets kinda terrifies me.

  34. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@marionberry: Woohoo! Wishing you lots of luck, sending awesome IUI vibes!

@kentuckygirl: Pretty unlikely, out of the 8-10 he only actually measured 6 and I'm betting not all of them will make it. I'm kicking myself for not paying more attention, but the biggest one was 11 or 12mm - I wish I'd listened to how big the rest were! If you have strong concerns about multiples you should make sure you communicate with your RE so you guys are on the same page in terms of # of follicles and risk and moving forward. It's helpful for them to know!

  35. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@spaniellove, @kentuckygirl: So I had 27 (12 right, 15 left) follicles at cd3 and out of those, only five were moderate to full size on cd 11. With the lowest dose of clomid I ended up with: 19mm, 16.5mm, 15mm, 12mm and 11 mm. The RE had a conversation with us about triplets given that they consider 16mm a mature follicle. He said the chance of twins is 10% and triplets only about 3 in 100,000 but he said that while twins are risky, triplets and quadruplets, etc are very risky. He said he'd only do the IUI if we thought we were open to the idea of reduction. He says if we got pregnant with triplets he'd definitely recommend reducing down to twins. We're Catholic so it would be a hard decision, but I think if it meant keeping the other babies and me healthy we'd be open to it. I just don't want to think about it until I'm really in that position and have to make that decision. It's so unlikely. Hopefully some of this information will help in regards to your worries about multiples.

  36. kentuckygirl

    pear / 1786 posts

@spaniellove: @marionberry: Thanks for the very helpful info! I have discussed concerns with my RE but just wondering what you all knew about the progression of follicles & chances of multiples. I absolutely support people having the option to reduce but would hate to be faced with that decision myself. I just don't know what I would do.

  37. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@kentuckygirl: I've struggled with that idea myself, especially after experiencing a terrible suggestion about abortion years ago when I had a miscarriage. I don't know a whole lot specifically in terms of follicle progression, but do know that it depends a lot on a person's situation like where you're starting from and how you respond to the stims. Is your next u/s on Wednesday? It'll be so helpful to go and get real numbers!

  38. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@kentuckygirl: Adding because I realized you're on Menopur and I'm on 2 Menopur + 1 Bravelle, which is unusual - I think our protocols are more to mature the follicles than to stimulate lots of them. The LH in Menopur is what helps to mature and release the follicles, whereas Bravelle is just FSH. I was curious about that for a while because at first the RE told me to do 2 Menopur, 2 Bravelle, then looked at my notes and changed it. I'm wondering now if he saw that I was concerned about multiples (it wasn't my usual doctor).

Yes, I go on Wed for my ultrasound. Keeping my fingers crossed that things are progressing well but there's not too many follicles. I feel that they probably would have done an ultrasound a day or too earlier if it wasn't for the holiday.
