    Everyone, thank you for all the support! It was a difficult day yesterday but I feel like today will be better. I don't have a lot of time to reply to everyone individually and I'm trying to type with a basset hound on my lap! I'll check back in later!

    @sweetooth: I'm hoping the surgery did the trick and this natural cycle is super successful for you so you don't have to go any further!

    The meds nurse just called and I'm doing my injections next week! (Aaahhhh I wasn't ready, and OMG the out of pocket cost. Hearing just before Christmas that it's going to be $2000 for meds is such a downer!) So I'm using Bravelle, Menopur, Ganirelix, Ovidrel, and Endometrin (because I was allergic to all the other forms of progesterone and am really glad DH brought that up to the RE). Hopefully this will do something for my sad ovaries and DH's lazy sperm!

    @spaniellove: Oh wow, that's a lot of stuff! Is that typical? I'm curious because if this cycle doesn't work there's a good chance I'll need to move to injectables and I don't know much about it. The only one of those I have any experience with is Ovidrel, and that one was a piece of cake. Good luck, I really hope it works for you :-).

    @Leialou: How has the TWW been for you? I really hope this IUI was successful for you!

    My TWW is officially over. I got a BFN this morning I now have to stop the progesterone so that I can get my period and start a new cycle. Now we are onto IUI round 3. I really don't know how much more I can take emotionally. I was really hoping that this one would be it.

    @marionberry: that's great news! I hope the IUI works for both you and @spaniellove.

    I'll be thinking of you during your tww @bluestripedbee! I hope it ends with a BFP!!!

    @justdarling: I'm 14dpo today and no AF yet. She usually comes on 13dpo. I haven't taken a test though. I'm out of town and won't be back with my DH until Monday night. I don't want to test without him. I'm sorry about your cycle. I totally understand how you feel.

    @justdarling: So so sorry to hear it.

    IUI #3 is officially a failure, despite having 2-3 good follicles this month. To top it off, AF came at 10 DPO, which is about 5 days earlier than normal. I guess the Gonal F really shortened my luteal phase, which is worrisome. Also means that I have to cancel a work trip to CA because of the new timing. The plan going forward is to take a couple months off and then IVF in February. I am sorry for being quiet lately. Just don't have much energy anymore. I have been following all of you wonderful ladies, wishing you the best.

  8. Trailmix

    nectarine / 2152 posts

    @MrsCB I think those are meds for IVF, which can differ significantly from some IUI protocols. For comparison, I only did one shot of Gonal-F for 10 nights until I triggered with Ovidrel and that was all...so it's probably different for everyone depending on your Dr and future plans (aka Spaniellove specifically plans on going to IVF if this cycle doesn't work, I think, whereas we did not have IVF in our immediate future.)

    @Justdarling I'm sorry I know it's so disappointing. Babybunny did three or four IUIs before she was successful so just because it doesn't work one (or two) times, doesn't mean it won't work the next time...but I'm sure it's a bit heartbreaking right now...

    @Raintreebee I'm so sorry So disappointing and frustrating. I'm hoping the first round of IVF does the job for you guys...

    @raintreebee: I am so sorry. I totally undertand why you've been quiet. This is really an emotional rollercoaster. A break is probably a good thing. Good luck with the IVF in february.

    @Leialou: I am also 14 dpo. I am on progesterone so I don't get AF natuarlly. I have to test on 14 dpo and then if it is negative I stop the progesterone. I should get AF on Sunday. Hopefully the fact that she hasn't come for you means that you will get a BFP! Fingers crossed for you!

    @Trailmix: Thanks for the nice words. My doctor has also told me that is may take 3 or 4 tries. Hopefully 3rd time is a charm for us.

    @Mrs.Someone: Hope is good I like hearing about the path that you're on, thank you for sharing the acupuncture/herbs/naturopath information.

    @MrsCB: Sorry to hear about the frustrations. Hope your ultrasound goes well today and that things continue to progress! And thanks for understanding my state of mind

    @spaniellove: Thanks! And wow - that is a lot of meds. I don't think the cost associated with all of this ever gets easier to swallow. But the positive outcome, and inching closer and closer to it - THAT is a good thing Good luck next week!!!

    @justdarling: I'm sorry to hear that you got a BFN. I can imagine the emotional toll it must be taking. Do you feel strong enough to move right in to the 3rd round? Or do you need a little breather? I wish this wasn't so hard... {hugs!}

    @Leialou: Thinking good thoughts for you!

    @Raintreebee: No need to apologize for being quiet. It's hard to keep talking about all of this when it seems like it will never end. I'm sorry to hear about your 3rd IUI not working. I hope you can take some time for you during the next couple months before IVF. {hugs!}

    @sweetooth: We talked about it this morning and we are giong to go straight into round #3. No one's getting any younger around here! The IUIs are partially covered by insurance so we figure we might as well keep trying. Plus, my doctor recommends continuing this back to back. Today is a pretty down day....but maybe we'll have a BFP next month. It would be a great brithday present for DH!

    Hi everyone, I'm a new hellobee member and I just wanted to introduce myself.

    I have a 7 month old son who was conceived through our fourth IVF cycle. We went through 2+ years of IUIs and IVFs and were finally successful after going to CCRM in Colorado.

    Our issue was poor egg quality. Basically, we'd retrieve a large number of eggs, however, only 1-2 eggs would be mature and fertilize. We were told by our first two IVF clinics that our only option was donor eggs, but we decided not to give up and did a consult with CCRM. Based on reviews, studies and gut feeling, we decided to do our last tries with them and amazingly it worked (third IVF we only did a retrieval, no transfer). Not only that, we have 2 remaining embryos in freeze that we will be using for baby #2.

    Anyway, I just wanted to post here and wish everyone luck. I went through (and still feel) the pain from IF. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. I've done it all...acupuncture, IUIs, clomid, CCS, immunology testing.

  14. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

    @MrsCB: As @Trailmix explained it's essentially one of the IVF protocols. I think I'm using the antagonist protocol to stop my LH from surging too soon and because it's harder to stim my ovaries. So we're really considering this round of IUI more of an expensive practice for the IVF than an actual treatment. Emotionally it's easier for me to think of it this way.

    @justdarling: I am so sorry about the BFN; sending hugs your way! I hope that thinking about your next steps takes some of the sting out of your disappointment today.

    @raintreebee: It's totally understandable that all of this is leaving you feeling low on energy. I'm so sorry. Taking a break to recharge sounds like a great idea - find some ways to concentrate on you again! I think you and I may be IVF buddies in February.

    I just got my T4 and T3 lab test results from my naturopath and am excited to be switching to a natural thyroid med (Armour) Shes upping my (equivalent) dose a bit, so hopefully I'll start feeling better soon (and get a good BFP of course!), yay.

    @spaniellove: Taking all those meds really was the worst and I wish I could give you some tips on making things better, but to be honest, there's really nothing that makes it a whole lot better. Some people have suggested icing the area beforehand to numb it before the injection, I just found that to be more of a hassle. Word of warning: the Menopur burns when the med is injected and unfortunately, there's really nothing you can do to prevent that. Definitely use pantyliners for the endometrin inserts. They get messy.

    I'll be rooting for you! I know how overwhelming it all is, but hang in there!

  20. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

    @sooz: Thanks! I remembered hearing that something burned but forgot it was the Menopur. Did you find it helpful to inject it slowly?

  21. marionberry

    @leialou: Thank you!
    @raintreebee, @justdarling: I'm so sorry! Our RE has us planned to do at least 5 IUIs before IVF. Is that the plan for you two?
    @spaniellove: OMG that's crazy expensive for meds! I'm sorry hun. When I picked up the clomid (knowing it wasn't covered) I thought it might cost me at least $100 so when she said $17.88 I was like, phew. The only cheap thing in this process.

    Well today I had cd3 testing and an ultrasound. Ultrasound looks good with many follicles (12 in one ovary and 15 in the other). Estrogen and FSH numbers came out great but Thyroid was high...3.9 and my RE says that's normal but for his fertility patients he wants under 3.5. All the nurse said was we'll check it again in a month. Googling hyperthyroidism has me a bit scared but seems to explain systems I've had so far. Did anyone else have high thyroid? Got the Clomid to start taking tomorrow, have an HSG to schedule next week, and IUI for approximately the day after Christmas. Feeling a bit overwhelmed!

  22. Mrs. Pickle

    blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts

    Well the IUI was a bust. I'm not sure what we're going to do next. It might be time to see a RE.

  23. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

    @Leialou: Was it your first IUI? I'm sorry that it didn't work...as I prepare to do one this cycle I know that my hopes will be back up again (for trying something new), so it's got to be hard having it not work. *hugs* Cool that you were able to do an IUI with your OB though. I had to go to an RE just to get that far.

  24. Mrs. Pickle

    blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts

    @marionberry: it was our second. I'm thinking that since our issue is male factor that another IUI might not be the best idea. But I'm not a doctor, so who knows.

  25. Mrs.Someone

    pomelo / 5228 posts

    @marionberry: I'm Hypothyroid (ie. thyroid over 2.5). I'd be skeptical of a doc that says he wants it under 3.5, as that is in the old range. The current range is 1-2.5 for normal, but I was just told by a naturopath (who specializes in fertility) that she prefers it under 2. Also, my acupuncturist saw an older test of mine that read 2.44 and said that it was a miscarriage level. Also, have your T3 and T4 tested the get the whole picture. I really don't want to scare you, but I want to make sure you have the current info, as thyroid is very important in fertility. I just switched my meds to Armour Thyroid, since I wasn't doing as well on Synthyroid, and a lot of people seem to do better on Armour. Anyway, feel free to message me if you need any more info.

  26. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

    @Mrs.Someone: You are right..I would be hypothyroid not hyper. Thank you. This makes much more sense as my symptoms match many of those listed for hypo. I will definitely talk to my provider when I get a chance about putting me on meds. I did read that the value can be increased by getting sick and I was killer sick about 3 weeks ago...which may be why he wants to see if the value changes in a month versus going straight to meds but my mother has low thyroid so it makes sense that I would too. Thank you for your information! It really helped.
    @shutterbug: What was your TSH value?

  27. Shutterbug

    grapefruit / 4703 posts

    @marionberry: 3.7 and then 3.47 - they said for TTC it should be between 1 and 2 so I'm on 25 mcg of meds daily. My endo said it's one of the oldest and safest medicines available, so don't worry good luck!

  28. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

    @Leialou: I am so sorry...it might be a good idea to see an RE because there is a point when doing an additional IUI doesn't add to the cumulative success rate (after 3, I think). An RE could probably offer you more options for treatment...

  29. Mrs.Someone

    pomelo / 5228 posts

    @marionberry: Parkerhaus wrote some helpful blog posts about getting her thyroid in check: http://parkerhausgrows.wordpress.com/?s=thyroid
    Good luck! I was told its normal to adjust meds a lot to get to the right levels. And it takes about 6 weeks each time before testing blood again.

    @spaniellove: I'm so excited for you! That is a lot of money to stomach, but I've got high hopes that it will work.

    @justdarling: I'm so sorry. Fingers (and toes and eyes) crossed that third time will be the charm!

    @Leialou: Oh, I'm sorry. I hate it when it comes late. Mean old tease. Hopefully an RE would have a different angle to try. Hugs.

    @raintreebee: Oh, that sucks so much. I'm so sorry. I hope that this mini-break recharges you and that IVF works first time!

    @Mrs.Someone: I hope it does the trick and that the sticky baby is right around the corner.

    @marionberry: Oh my gosh, that's a lot of info! It sounds like a great plan! Good luck! And btw, I know several people on thyroid meds and they have no problems with it.

    By some miracle, I got a spontaneous BFP yesterday. I just wanted to thank all you lovely wonderful ladies for all of your support. It's been really hard and if I had gone through it alone, I think I would have really lost my mind. I'm going to continue rooting and praying and finger-crossing really hard for all of you. And I can't wait to celebrate your graduations from this thread!!!!

    @Mrs.Someone: Thank you so much for the information. Her blog posts led me to download some kindle books to get some ideas on health choices to make.
    @Grace: That's good to hear...and congrats again!
    @Leialou: We have mild male factor and we're doing IUI but if your male factor is very bad you're right, IVF may be better for you. I'd definitely talk to an RE about it.

    honeydew / 7916 posts

    @marionberry: I'm hoping the IUI works on the first try, and also that you find some good solutions for the possible thyroid issue!

    This is what that $2300 gets me. Now if only AF would cooperate! I know I'm not pregnant because I got a BFN on two different tests this morning!

    @spaniellove: For me, injecting slowly didn't help the burn. Unfortunately, I don't think anything really helps with the burning. With all the injections, your poor stomach will get bruised pretty badly, so I would definitely recommend placing a warm compress/towel on your injection sites after the shots. It helps the blood circulate and prevents (or at least minimizes) the bruising. And, with less bruising is less pain!

    @sooz: welcome to hellobee! And thanks for stopping in on this thread. It's always good to hear from people who have made it through the IF journey and have a baby.

    @marionberry: I think going to the RE when they load you down with lots of new info can be very overwhelming. I don't know much about the thyroid, so I can't help there. But I'll be thinking of you the day after Christmas! So soon!

    @Leialou: I'm sorry to hear that the IUI didn't work this time. Was this an unmonitored cycle? Maybe working with an RE would help time the IUI? I don't know enough about MFI to shed any light on that. But I hope you are able to figure out the best next step for you and your husband. {hugs!}
