@ladybee: It could still happen this cycle! I did a search on FF and found that of the charters taking Clomid and using OPKs, there are some charts with a positive OPK and no rise, then a later positive OPK and ovulation, or a positive OPK and it was obvious that ovulation happened much later. And I think they also had PCOS. Since you know your OPKs don't necessarily correspond exactly with ovulation because of PCOS, it's still possible!

Hi ladies! Sorry I've been MIA, but I wanted to pop in and wish you all tons and tons of luck this cycle - it sounds like a lot of you are moving on to the next step, and I have a good feeling that we're going to be seeing a bunch of graduates soon!

AFM, I feel like I have no idea what's going on with my body. I ovulated on Tuesday, then started taking levothyroxine for my thyroid on Thursday, and then on Saturday I started to feel like I'm getting a UTI. Now today the UTI feelings are subsiding a little bit, but I have mild period like cramps and I just found a teeny bit of stretchy bloody tissue (sorry, TMI) when I wiped. I'm only 5dpo so I have no idea what this means, if it even means anything at all. I've basically resigned myself to not "trying" for the next cycle or two, since we're waiting for my thyroid to level out and redo the fertility blood work, but it's really stressful to not know what's going on. Sorry for the vent, just feeling like I need to do it on here rather than to DH (who is sick of hearing about my pee, etc!)

@spaniellove: I don't know what I'd do without your support and advice. My temp spiked (again) this morning. Hopefully it holds this time and keeps climbing. I think I need to ditch OPKs and just trust my temps. I'm not changing anything even if I get a + OPK, still EOD so what do they matter? I did have some intense lower, left side cramping at about 10pm last night. Now, was it ovulation, something I ate, or just gas lol

I disappeared after my appointment last week. My levels regarding my prolactin/tumor have gone up instead of decreasing. I asked the endo about conceiving, etc. He looked shocked that I would even ask (hello, my entire reason of being there) and asked me when I thought we'd start. I told him I'd like to as soon as I was "cleared" to. He told me to wait a year. Nothing wrong with that, but I felt a bit disappointed with the news all together. Nothing that'll keep me down though! I'm going to find a new OB too (new insurance) and start talking to them about everything going on.

@ladybee: If the doctor will prescribe the 100mg, start taking it right away instead of waiting until next cycle. That's how my RE has been doing it with me.

Just one caveat - this cycle the 100mg didn't work and I'm now taking 150mg. So IDK what happened last month, if the it was the combination of both the 50 then the 100, or what it might have been. But anyways, my point is that if you don't get pg this cycle, don't assume (like I did) that the 100 will work without a problem next cycle.

AFM, as I mentioned the 100mg Clomid didn't work, so now I'm on 150. I really really hope we get pregnant again this cycle because it's going to cause a lot more complications medication-wise. Both this cycle and last cycle the first dose of meds hasn't worked, so we've got straight to a higher dose. But my doctor won't give any higher doses than 150, so if we try that next cycle and it doesn't work right away, I have no idea what we'll do.

But before I get ahead of myself worrying about next cycle, I'm trying to stay positive for this one. I have another ultrasound and b/w tomorrow. Hopefully I have at least 1 follicle over 10mm, but I'm really hoping there will be more.

@BabyBear: I'm sorry to hear about the bad news. *Hugs*!
@shutterbug: I hate not knowing what's going on too! I can't wait to get into the RE and have him start figuring something out. I want a gameplan!!

I'm back from the RE appointment. Good news, bad news. I'm convinced that you never get exactly what you expect from that place. It turns out my FSH was borderline high, 9.6, and they didn't find as many follicles on my u/s as they wanted. So the RE said we should do either IUI with injectibles or IVF with ICSI, with the benefit of IUI being that it would give us a chance to fine-tune the meds before IVF. Since we'd have to wait until February to start IVF anyway, we decided to do one cycle of IUI w/ injectibles in the meantime, either at the end of this month if we can get it together or next month.

Of course I expected to do the whole IVF deal. But how can the egg issue be happening to me already? I'm only 31! I have regular cycles and I ovulate!

@spaniellove: I'm sorry your appointment didn't go as expected. I'm surprised too, 31 is young! At least with the disappointing news you were given a couple of options plan wise. I think I'd try the IUI too however, I am finding I know nothing about fertility options pass the good ol' fashion way of getting KU.

@spaniellove: At least you got some good news. I would also do the IUI. It will get you used to all of the meds. Good luck! Hopefully you can do the IUI this month.

@Spaniellove I'm sorry you got some not great news from the RE, it always goes that way, doesn't it. My FSH was at a 20.8 and I was 28 at the time (and FSH of 23 is pre-menopausal!!) Just wondering, did they test your AMH too? That can be another indicator of egg quality (mine was at a .3 when it should be over 1). And yet I did an IUI plus injections cycle and it worked for me the first time, so don't get too worried just yet. Plus, IUI is a million times cheaper and less invasive on your body than IVF, so how great would it be if it works and you don't even have to go the IVF route? And if it doesn't work, like you said, your RE will have a better understanding of how your body responds to the meds, which is half the battle of any of these infertility treatments. Good luck, don't despair, you're being proactive and I am confident something will work to get you pregnant!

@spaniellove: I'm so sorry about the news. I'm so worried that that might be my issue as well..given our very similar cycles and situations. I guess we'll find out soon. I'm glad they gave you the option of IUI first. I really hope you luck out like @trailmix!

So after my frustration with my OBGYN last week, and seeing that my thyroid levels are rising, I decided to see a naturopath.

The appointment was good. She wasn't touchy-feely (which I was afraid of!) and she seems to have a good plan moving forward. She was able to tack on 2 more test to the blood draw I had last week (yay no more pokes today). She also wants to check my progesterone and for MTHFR on 7dpo. I'm happy that she seems proactive fertility-wise, as opposed to my doc.

The other thing is she said we should prevent this month Not a fan of that, but I'm going to wait and see what happens with my thyroid levels to decide.

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@ladybee: @justdarling: Thank you, I'm hoping that if nothing else it'll be a good practice run for IVF.

@marionberry: Hopefully this isn't what's going on with you!

@Trailmix: For some reason I thought they tested that before (it was ordered the first time) but they took my blood for that today. The billing person told us our insurance will cover less of the procedure than we expected, but overall it is cheaper than IVF. I'm so happy that it worked on the first try for you especially with the cloud of FSH hanging over your head!

@Mrs.Someone: Did your naturopath give a reason for preventing this month? Checking for MTHFR sounds like a good idea.

I'm amazed at how many phone calls back and forth are involved in setting up IUI and IVF at the same time! We decided to split up the calls, and I accidentally had DH take the calls for the IVF nurse coordinator when I was hoping to talk to her.

  15. Mrs.Someone

    pomelo / 5228 posts

@spaniellove: The only reason she gave was "healing", nothing more specific. I was honest with her and told her that I might not follow her advice. I'm going to see what the plan for my thyroid is before really deciding, but I suspect we'll still try this month. Exciting to see you have a plan and are moving to IVF! Hopefully it goes quickly for you

  16. Trailmix

    nectarine / 2152 posts

@Spaniellove Your FSH levels can also change, so it's possible they tested it before and it was not elevated. Unfortunately, Drs will usually count your highest level as the one to go off of but either way, 9.6 isn't terrible (it's not 20.8, HA!). You should ask about AMH, as I mentioned earlier, bc that's another egg quality indicator that some Drs say is a better judge than the FSH number. Either way, you have options and possibilities for getting pregnant and I know one of them is going to work!

Well my temp dropped, FF took my CH away, and my due date would have been 15 days away. Friends on FB who were due at the same time are posting pictures of their babies. I feel like giving up. I wish I could get in with a RE sooner, even though I know Jan 3 is really quick and will be here before I know it. DH keeps saying this wasn't meant to be easy for us but I'm starting to feel a little bitter. I wish 2013 would hurry up!

@ladybee: so sorry! I'm just joining this thread. I have an appt with my ob next Thurs to discuss options. My due date would have been 1/27, so I'm just hoping to have a plan of action before that comes along. Don't give up! It'll happen for us eventually. This is all just a test of our patience. I'm failing miserably though!

@ladybee - sorry tour temps aren't cooperating Are you charting CM too? I agree, it definitely sucks waiting for a doc appointment. Is there a naturopath in your area that specializes in fertility that you can see in the meantime?

  20. marionberry

So I had my first RE visit and had to run home and share all of the great news with you ladies. First of all, I love my doctor and their practice..so much better than docs I'd been to previously. Luckily (this is ironic) I started spotting this morning so AF is due tonight or tomorrow. This means that I am set to do an ultrasound and bloodwork on Friday or Monday (depending on when AF shows) and an HSG sometime mid next week. Following the results, my RE plans an IUI with Clomid which may even get to be done this cycle (aka Dec 26th). If we can't get the Clomid taken in time we may just do a natural IUI until next month. I can't believe that I am getting to move on all of this so quickly. I swear..happiest day I've had in a long time!

@marionberry: If all goes well, you should write them a nice Yelp review so other women in your area can know they're good too! I found my acupuncturist and naturopath on Yelp since I didn't want to ask friends. Hoping to see you get that BFP soon

@marionberry: I read your post and had to take a few minutes to call the clinic again, because it made me think "dang, where is the call from that meds nurse? I need my injectibles!" Actually I'm not mentally ready to start shots next week so in a way I'm okay with waiting a cycle. I told DH we're just not trying this coming cycle and he was like, "you mean no sex?" Ahahahahaha.

At the doctor just got IUI'd. Being in the exam room reminds me of the movie 'the back up plan.' Going to watch that movie tonight and cross my fingers for twins!

@bluestriped bee: So exciting! We're all crossing our fingers for you too!

I forgot about something ironically funny from my naturopath visit yesterday. She looked at my high AMH number (over 10) and said it means I'm very fertile. I told her that the last 9 months beg to differ! She said that up to a year is normal though, and I shouldn't think of myself as "infertile" at this point. It doesn't matter either way though, since shes running tests and helping me get pregnant.

@bluestriped bee: Good luck! Hoping you get twins like you want!
@spaniellove: That's where I get really lucky. Since DH used to be a nurse if we get on injectibles I'm good to go with not having to stab myself. DH also commented today about not really BD'ing much next cycle so he can store up his sperm.

  35. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@marionberry: I was thinking the opposite...I think we have to make sure we BD at least EOD if not every day between the end of AF until 2 days before IUI to make sure DH's motility is good so they don't cancel the whole thing. (Not BDing means toxins build up as sperm die and kill off whatever is left)

  36. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@spaniellove: Interesting...our RE didn't say anything about how often to have sex. I think I'll see him on Monday so I'll have to ask! In the meantime I will definitely research. I totally believe you and I don't want to mess this thing up. Luckily my DH's numbers have all been above normal each time, although they were worse last time because of his meds and will probably still be for the IUI.

I'm going to attempt to catch up with everyone - I've been away from the computer for a bit, still checking in to see how everyone is doing though. I have this one final natural cycle before we jump into Clomid/IUI and I want to believe SO bad that all I needed was that hysteroscopy. I'm letting myself be optimistic - and feel hopeful that if it doesn't happen, I can move on to Clomid/IUI.

    - - - - -
@mrsmate: Glad to hear the appointment went well and you can move on to IVF soon! I haven't heard of a tubogram - I just googled and see that it's the HSG test? You can see some of the advice from everyone on this thread about their HSG. It can be painful for some, and not at all for others. The information that you get from the test is good though.

@ladybee: Don't give up! It sounds like you are going through a tough time right now - but keep focused on 1/3/13. It will be here before you know it.

@BabyBear: I'm sure that information about the increase in prolactin was hard to hear. I think a second opinion might be good though. Maybe you don't have to wait an entire year?

@MrsCB: Hope you are still in a positive place - how did your ultrasound and b/w go? More than 1 follicle?

@spaniellove: Sorry to hear that you had both good and bad news at your RE appointment. I echo everyone's sentiments that easing in to the procedures with IUI and injectibles will be good. Then, if you have to move on to IVF, you will be a pro. 31 is young, and you WILL get pregnant.

@Mrs.Someone: Glad to hear you enjoyed your experience with the naturopath. Do you find that all of the alternative medicine appointments are easier than the RE appointments? A little less overwhelming?

@marionberry: I'm thrilled for you! Here's to your body cooperating and allowing you to move quickly through all of the tests and on to IUI! Ride the high!

@bluestriped bee: Thinking SUPER positive thoughts for you

  39. Mrs.Someone

@sweetooth: I hope all you needed was the surgery too! Its going to be an exciting few months for lots of ladies around here. As for me, I actually haven't been to an RE, but I feel that starting with acupuncture/herbs/naturopath is a better step for me before heading on to meds. Something worked last month, even though it didn't stick, so I'm hopeful.

  40. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@sweetooth: you're so sweet for checking in :-). But no, no follicles yet! I'm pretty frustrated. The doctor thinks, based on my bloodwork, it's possible I'll still make progress, i just might need time. I have another ultrasound tomorrow, hopefully there's been some progress.

I hope this cycle works you, I know how frustrating it can be to go through all these hoops and procedures, always hoping that it finally solved the problem.
