Wow, you all are great! I was feeling so bad about being MIA but you all really "get" how tough this is, which I knew but I am definitely feeling the love and support. Thank you!
@marionberry: I hope you get a BFP before IUI, but if not, it will be great to have a buddy!
@spaniellove: I am glad your test results were good. Hopefully that means you'll have a great IVF. I am so glad to hear you and DH have decided for sure to stand up and say to your RE that you want to move on to IVF. Don't let the RE pressure you to do something you don't want to do. I have friends who had successful IUIs but another who said they wish they had skipped them, since they now will be moving onto IVF.

I had my HSG earlier today... ugh. Thankfully it was fast! And she ended by saying "you'll never have to do this ever again".
Normal-shaped uterus and no blockages in my tubes, so that's all good, but she also said I have a "very tight cervix" and that may be playing a role in why we've had difficulty getting pregnant. (Seriously? A tight cervix? Is that even a thing? Off to consult Dr. Google...).
My bloodwork isn't back from the lab yet, so I have to schedule a separate follow-up appointment to go over those, but it looks like we'll definitely be moving on to IUI fairly quickly after that.

@alie: a tight cervix?! Hmm I may need to google too. That's curious. I'm glad everything looks good and hopefully you guys can move on to the next step quickly now.

@alie: congrats on getting through the hsg! I've never heard of tight cervix. An iui should be able to get through it.

@alie: @marionberry: @justdarling: I wonder if that's similar to a cervical stenosis. Jojo had that, I think, and they did a quick little procedure and then she got pregnant within a few months.
kiwi / 526 posts
@Grace: I'm fairly sure it is the same thing, or at least similar but not as severe? She said it was likely the result of the LEEP I had a few years ago.
@marionberry: I think my RE is ready for us to go on to IUI like rightthisveryminute (or... this cycle). But I might wait until January. Just need some time to process it all in my brain, and then of course there is the paying-out-of-pocket factor.
@justdarling: I certainly hope that's the case! I figure it she did eventually get the catheter through today, it can't be *that* bad....

@justdarling: how did it go today? I had my part done at 10:30 too! I hope it works for us!
Thanks for the well wishes everyone. Today was hard. I don't know what the nurse did, but I was in so much pain during the procedure. I thought I was going to puke. I had some spotting this time too. And my DH's sample was the worst one ever. They convinced us to go ahead with the IUI after they washed the sample because "it only takes one." I think it'll take a miracle for me to get a BFP from this. But it's the holidays. There is no better time for a miracle!
apricot / 452 posts
@Leialou: I'm so sorry you were in pain! That's horrible! I guess today was not a good day for sperm samples. It also was my DH's worst sample yet, but it does only take one. The procedure for me was really easy, a lot easier than last time. I didn't even feel it! Try to keep up the positive thoughts because miracles can happen!

@marionberry: I'm not sure yet... we'll talk through it all at our follow-up meeting next week, but for now I'm estimating somewhere around $1,000. I'll be happily surprised if it's less but I think it's more likely for it to be more. And between spending $1200 the past two months on fertility-related appts, acupuncture, etc., and then dealing with the holidays this month, I just really don't want to spend another grand in 2012!
@Leialou: I am so sorry your procedure was painful I hope you're feeling 100% better now and that all the pain will be worth it in two weeks! Thinking Happy IUI Thoughts for both you and @justdarling!

Hi ladies! Just wanted to say hey and introduce myself. I mostly hung out on the Weddingbee TTC boards before this, but I have posted a few times over here. DH and I just got our BFP after 2 years of trying on our second round of Follistim + IUI. Our first round we only had one follie, so I'm not surprised it didn't work. This time I had three and we managed to conceive even though DH's #s were much lower (previously we hadn't had any issues with him. I have PCOS). Betas are indicating there's only one little baby in there.
GL and baby dust to all of you still waiting! I know some people worry about spending money on IUI when IVF has success rates that are so much higher, but for us, it was definitely the right choice.

Hi everyone. We are dealing with secondary IF (we have a 22mo DD). We have been trying since she was 6mo. We went through 6 cycles of Clomid - got a BFP w/the 1st cycle but it ended in MC at 7wks. The rest were all BFNs. We have an appt w an RE on Thursday. Our insurance will cover 5 rounds of IVF. I wanted to be pregnant yesterday. Can I request we just jump to IVF ASAP? Pending workup, of course. Wishing BFPs for everyone very soon.

@BabyBunny: Thanks for posting - I love hearing success stories!! And congratulations on your BFP!
@mrsmate: I'm sorry you have to join us, but welcome! I hope your RE is willing to let you be as aggressive as you'd like to. And that's AMAZING that your insurance will cover so much!!! Good luck with your appointment on Thursday.

@alie: thanks for the welcome! Yes we are lucky to live in Boston. The state mandates coverage of infertility like any other disease. We do have a $150 copay each around (standard surgical copay), so it's not free but really nothing compared to paying out of pocket. We also have our choice of highly respected clinics. I highly recommend moving to Boston for all those experiencing IF!

@Leialou: @justdarling: Just wanting to send both of you good juju vibes during this TWW
@mrsmate: Welcome and at the same time, sorry you are here That's so awesome that your insurance not only covers one but five IVFs! Hopefully you don't have to use that many. Good luck with your appointment.
@BabyBunny: Thank you for posting your story - I, too, love to hear success stories after so long of trying. Congrats!
AF started yesterday which is 2 days early - I'm wondering if it has something to do with acupuncture? Not sure. I got a positive OPK a day early this cycle, too.But - we have our first meeting with an RE today (I was secretly hoping I could cancel b/c I got a BFP - but obviously those plans got thwarted :p). I'm hoping that since we are seeing her at the very beginning of my cycle that we can move forward with something immediately. Crossing my fingers!

@MK0180: I am also *always* hoping to cancel dr's appts/bloodwork due to a surprise bfp! It never happens, but I always have that little seed of hope in the back of my mind, ha. But I'm only on CD 8 today, so there's no chance of that happening for this Wednesday's appt - boo.
I hope your appointment goes well today!!

@mrsmate: Welcome, and sorry you have to be here. I'm meeting with our RE next week to discuss moving forward with IVF. My guess is that if your tests indicate that everything is fine (especially with your FSH and AMH), you can probably tell them you prefer to just do IVF instead of IUI + meds. You're lucky to have IVF covered! I also live in a mandated coverage state, but there are a lot of exceptions so IVF is OOP for us.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@MK0180: Good luck with your appt today! Having it at the start of your cycle is great timing - that means you can schedule all kinds of tests right away and not have to wait months! And I, too, have hoped to be able to cancel appointments due to a surprise BFP!

@BabyBunny: Also happy to hear a success story! Thanks for posting here!
@mrsmate: Welcome to this great group of very supportive ladies! I hope your stay here is short.
@MK0180: Best of luck today at your RE Appt!

Quick update on me...I think there is a chance the higher dose of Femara could be helping. I have more EWCM than last month. Hoping to get a positive OPK on Thursday, we'll see!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@kentuckygirl: that's great that your Femara dose seems to be working better. Congrats!
@mrsmate: I am SO jealous! IVF is not a mandated coverage where I'm from, so it will all be out of pocket. I hope it works for you quickly!
@leilalou, @justdarling: congrats on your IUIs. I'm in the TWW too (despite no treatment, just normal BD). Wishing us all baby dust!

Hi everyone, I took some time off of typing to let my silly cooking injury on my finger heal. I made it through the injectables and had IUI #3 this morning. Everything went fine. The injectables weren't fun, but they weren't at all terrible either. It really is just a matter of getting over a mental block of jabbing something into yourself. I also thought they made me MUCH less crazy than Clomid, which everyone appreciated! At my last ultrasound two days ago, I ended up with two follicles around 20 mm and one at 16 but unfortunately they are all on the left ovary, which has endo. I am trying to be optimistic, but it is hard. If this doesn't work, then I am looking forward to two months off before we start IVF in February
@justdarling: @Leialou: Congrats on making it through the IUI. @Leialou: So sorry yours was painful. Hope you are feeling better. I will be suffering through the TWW with you both!
@sweetooth: So glad your procedure went well. Good luck this month.
@Mrscb: I am so sorry about your chemical pregnancy. I hope you are feeling okay about it. I am thinking of you.
@BabyBunny: Thank you for the hopeful story! It really brightened my day!

@mrsmate: Welcome! Wow, that is the best insurance I have ever heard of! We have mandatory coverage in NY, but my insurance only covers one round, which I thought was generous. I think you can definitely push for IVF. See what the RE says. It might make sense for you to do an IUI cycle when you are completing the "checklist" for IVF (most clinics want you to do classes, a whole battery of tests specifically for IVF, HIV tests for both of you, etc). Good luck!
@kentuckygirl: you go girl!

Well, it looks like its my turn to graduate! I got my BFP yesterday 9 months of trying, with a month and a half of acupuncture and a month of chinese herbs (which I think is what did the trick).
Thank you all for your support! Good luck to everyone, I'll definitely still keep in touch to cheer you all on.

@Mrs.Someone: Hurray! Congrats!! Glad to see a graduate and that acupuncture helped :)) Happy and healthy 9 months to you!
@alie: @spaniellove: @kentuckygirl: Thank you! It was a good appointment. We have decided to do clomid + IUI this cycle - as in, a couple of weeks!!! I can't believe it but DH was totally on board. The RE went through our history and she suggested I can either do clomid for one month or add the IUI now or wait another cycle. Well, in terms of cost, the IUI was not so expensive and so DH and I figure - what do we have to lose, especially if it increases our chances?
@raintreebee: Good luck and I hope it does work for you!!@kentuckygirl: Yay for more EWCM!

@Mrs.Someone: Congratulations! So excited that we have a graduate!

@kentuckygirl: Yay, that's always a good sign! Fingers crossed you get your positive OPK on Thursday
@raintreebee: I hope this TWW goes quickly for you, and ends in the best possible way! (BFP, of course!)
@Mrs.Someone: Yay, congratulations!!! I'm a month and a half into acupuncture as well, so maybe it will help me join you in the "graduates" club as well I hope you have a very happy, healthy, and EASY 9 months!
@MK0180: Yay, that's great you have a plan! I know IUI is next for us, but I won't know until tomorrow if we're going to try to make it work this cycle or wait until next.
