I had my day 9, early monitoring appointment this morning. I only had one sizable follicle, measuring at 23.5. I know it only takes one, but I was hoping for more this time around, especially after learning that all follicles don't necessarily have eggs. Now I wait for my blood test results and potentially trigger tonight with the IUI #2 on Monday morning. I didn't even have a chance to see if the injectables would have helped. Thank goodness for early monitoring though.

@sweetooth: Sorry about not having more follicles. Maybe ask your doctor to up your meds if you want more? Although, I'm sure they don't want too many because of the risk of multiples.
I didn't know not all follicles have eggs. Now that will really concern me when go in for my ultrasound next week.

@bluestriped bee: yeah, my doctor wanted to up me to 100mg this time around. I declined because I felt like I knew my body best and that I did resond to 50. Plus we were going to do early monitoring and injectables. Now I'm trying not to beat myself up too much because I did resond to 50, but only stimulated one follicle.
Good luck at your ultrasound this week. Glad to hear that you enjoyed acupuncture and are feeling positive. Are you all packed for Hawaii?

@sweetooth: I think @spaniellove: has mentioned this before, but have you had your AMH tested? If it comes back normal, then an egg that matures to appropriate size most likely contains an egg and you shouldn't worry. That's still a pretty big follicle and I wish you the best of luck with your IUI monday!

@spaniellove: I'm so excited for your IVF cycle to begin! I know it feels like time is dragging, but it sounds like you're super prepared now. Any time left to schedule that massage?
@Leialou: I'm glad to hear that your first RE appointment went well. It is surprising that you had an ultrasound at that appointment, was it CD3 for you? I hope things go smoothly as your work through the next steps and that you get some more answers before moving into IVF.

@marionberry: what does AMH stand for again?
I just googled. I do think that was tested in my early bloodwork. I don't know that number off the top of my head, maybe ill look back through my papers.
Thank you for the good luck

@justdarling: I do think its hard to get to the point where IVF is the next step. I recently attended an online web conference with my fertility clinic that was all about IVF. It was really informative and it got me more comfortable with the idea of IVF. Maybe there's something like that you could attend? Maybe through your clinic or Resolve?

So I'll have to be honest with you guys. This might be our last IUI. I know I'm so hopeful about the acupuncture treatments.
But I've done a lot of thinking lately. Maybe it's because I've had some work issues come up where I don't feel appreciated.
Anyway, having trouble conceiving has really made me dissect my life apart. My DH and I really want to move back to the east coast to be around family and friends but we want to start a family and my work offers 12 weeks of paid maternity leave. It's amazing. I was hoping to be pregnant by now. I was hoping to get pregnant, get maternity leave then while on maternity leave start the job search on the east coast. Well, with infertility it has definitely delayed our plans and hopes to move back home. I know, I'm pyscho analyzing things but I wonder if we need to move back home so we have better support. So with my work happiness declining, I'm wondering if its time to move.
So my DH and I sorta agreed that we will see how this IUI goes. If we are pregnant... Great!!! If we aren't, I should start the job hunting process (updating resume and actually applying).
Maybe with my recent acupuncture excitement, we will continue with IUI until I actually get the job offer. Although, do I want to risk going through job hunting process and knowing that if we get pregnant that the job hunting was all for nothing?
The problem is that I'm the breadwinner in the family. We depend a lot on my income and there is no way I could chance starting a new job pregnant. FMLA protects your job after you have been with a job for 1 year. So accepting a job offer while pregnant would be very reckless of me.
Anyway, I'm at a fork in the road. Do I want to move back home or continue TTC? Both will make me happy in different ways. It does kill me to possible put TTC on hold again for maybe the 5th
time.
Ok. I just thought of it. Maybe I will start the job hunting process because it can take months to job hunt. If an offer comes up and we are still not pregnant, then we will go. Then we can start TTC again (in a new city) after 3 months of work.
If I get pregnant during the job hunt, I will have to stay at my job for just a while longer. Then job hunt again after the baby is born. My resume should be current by then so it wouldn't be for nothing.
Thanks for letting me think this all out and have somewhat of a plan.
If you guys have any suggestions, let me know.

@sweetooth: anti- mullierien hormone. Sorry I know I spelled it wrong. Your AMH is related to your egg/ovarian reserve. I had it done back when I wanted to donate my eggs. My AMH was too low at the time to be a donator but I heard it has gone up.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@sweetooth: It measures your ovarian reserve and is usually a better measure than FSH.

@sweetooth: oh, no not packed yet. Need to do that. Lol

@bluestriped bee: It's a lot to think about, isn't it? Certainly doesn't help with the stress levels. I can totally relate to what you're going through. I'm unhappy at work right now but I took this job so we could move back to the east coast and be close to friends and family. I also took it because I can work from home and I thought that would be great when we had kids...which isn't happening like we had hoped. Now we have a mortgage, and my insurance is the one that provides the fertility coverage, so I feel stuck.
What I can say is that the best time to look for a job is when you have a job. And as hard as a cross-country move is now, it will only be more challenging when you have a baby.
I hope that the IUI is positive and you're able to plan your move to the east coast while you're on your maternity leave but in the mean time, get the job search started so you can keep your mind occupied during the TWW. And if you need any tips on the cross country move, I can help! (even though I'm sure you already have tips of your own since you moved out west!)

@bluestriped bee: We happened to get pregnant right in the middle of my DH getting interviews at another job in a state half way across the country. We ended up doing the interviews but ultimately decided that taking a job while pregnant is really risky, and that my family was here, so we declined the offers. I'd recommend that you job search and if it works out before you get pregnant, then great (just noting that you won't have FMLA protection once you get there and little PTO or sick leave), but if you end up pregnant first, you will likely want to wait until the end of maternity leave to start looking again. It's a hard decision to make. Just do what feels right for you.

@sweetooth: @marionberry: Wow, looks like we have a lot in common. That's great! If have any more questions, i'll know who to ask. Yeah, it's hard. Think it's time to start the job hunting.

@bluestriped bee: One thing I regret not doing for the past year is making my work life happier. I was waiting, of course, because I was hoping to be pregnant by now. So the once piece of advice I can give is don't put your career on hold for TTC, and don't put TTC on hold for your career. It doesn't hurt to job search, and especially if its far away it may take a while. You either get pregnant and turn down a great job, or you take a great job and get pregnant along the way. It will work itself out in the end!
My issue is that I'm a freelancer working from home, and I've been bored with it for a while. But I haven't been looking into other jobs/businesses. A few days ago I saw a dream job open up (that I regretted not applying for a year ago!) so I decided to apply and see what happens. Hopefully I get pregnant in Feb and its a moot point, but who knows!

@Mrs.Someone: Thank you! You know I wanted start job hunting last November but I kept think I'll get pregnant and all of that stress from having to deal with interviews will be for nothing. I got my former boss to look at my résumé, too. I had to edit somethings but that the last step I got to. I think at the time my heart wasn't in it. I didn't want to chance getting an amazing job offer and having to decided what to do. Also, at that time, I didn't want leave my job.
pomelo / 5228 posts
@bluestriped bee: Sounds like you have motivation now, so go for it! Regardless of what happens, theres a good chance you'll end up happier once things settle (pregnant, new job, and/or closer to family). Hope its the first one though

Here's a totally off the wall question for you guys! Do you wear socks at the RE when it's cold out? Or expose your feet?
I must admit that I've not been keeping up with doing my toes and have just been wearing cute socks instead. Comfort wins!

@sweetooth: Yay for early monitoring! And it does just take one follicle! Good luck this month and I hope your TWW passes quickly.

@spaniellove: I have been dying to get a pedicure for that reason! I have gone without polish or socks depending on what I am wearing that day!

@spaniellove: I usually keep my socks on because the rooms are so cold.

@Leialou: Best of luck with your decision on IVF. I hope this isn't too intrusive, but is there any specific reason the Dr. is recommending you move to that?
I am starting to feel like we may be heading in that direction. If this cycle doesn't work, we may try another IUI or two but I am beginning to feel like we may just need to move on. I just hope we can afford it.

Hi, everyone. This is my first post on this thread! I was diagnosed with mild PCOS in November, met my RE in December and now that our diagnostics are finally finished, I'm starting my first Clomid + timed BD cycle. I'm due for my CD12 u/s on Feb. 9 and I'm excited to see how my follicles respond.
I'm a little nervous about the effects of Clomid on my CM, so I'm looking into the whole Robutissin thing, which sounded crazy at first, but it makes sense! Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and join you guys in supporting each other!
@SpanielLove: I wear socks for sure! It sounds silly, but I try to wear my cuter socks. Anything to feel a little pretty in a very non-pretty position without sacrificing my warmth!

@ineebee: hi! welcome! Have you tried preseed? It's supposed to mimic CM and I've heard of a lot of people on Clomid using it.
pear / 1580 posts
@Shutterbug: Ah, Preseed! I'd forgotten about that! I just emailed my RN to ask what she recommends. Sounds a lot better than downing cough syrup for a week! Thanks!

@ineebee: Hi welcome to the thread. Hope your stay is short.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
@kentuckygirl: it's not too intrusive. I think it's because we are dealing with male factor IF. My DH doesn't really have high enough counts for IUI. I think we knew that deep down when we tried IUI, but we still wanted to give it a shot.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@sweetooth: @justdarling: When we first committed to IVF I found these videos from Brigham and Women's.
The Transition to IVF class video is long, but very helpful in explaining the process, and the emotional wellbeing class helped a lot even with the injectibles cycle.
nectarine / 2705 posts
@spaniellove: How funny that you bring this up. Yesterday I coordinated my socks with my sweater and the woman taking care of my ultrasound actually commented on them! hahaha!
And thank you for that link to the IVF video. I'll book mark it for sure, I think it would help for my husband to learn more too, so that we can make the decision together.
nectarine / 2705 posts
@kentuckygirl: Thank you! And I know what you mean about IVF. I think it's worth it to learn about it. But I do hope your IUI is a success!
@ineebee: Welcome to the support thread! I hope your first Clomid cycle is a success. I'm on my second round of Clomid, and I have been using preseed to help with the lack of CM.
pomelo / 5041 posts
@ineebee: I'm so glad you joined this thread! Surprisingly, I had EWCM for the first time ever on clomid, so it doesn't always dry you out. Preseed can definitely help.
@spaniellove: I can't remember what I did. Wore my basic white socks. I never much care what the doctor sees. I always figured they had seen worse lol.

@Sweetooth @Marionberry @Bluestriped bee: Thank you, ladies! I already feel more supported! I think Preseed is gonna be the way to go. Thanks for the advice!

I'm back from IUI #2. Here's hoping this is the one Isn't it crazy how much takes place building up to the IUI and then boom...two weeks of nothing. Time to focus on life and hope that nature takes its course now.

@sweetooth: Good luck!! Fingers crossed for you, and try to enjoy the down time during the TWW (I know, easier said than done!)

@sweetooth: I'm crossing my fingers for you! Stay busy so your TWW doesn't drag.
