Still waiting for my Instant Pot to come in but I just learned how to make things like yogurt and chicken breasts by video. Care to share a favorite quick recipe with times for the IP? I know nothing or nobody who uses this so this is all new info for me.

@808love: I presoak always, I feel like it makes for better beans. I follow the direction in the little book that came with it. I can check what it is. I change it a little depending on how dry the beans are.

this is my favorite appliance in the kitchen--pressure cooker i make corned beef, sauerkraut & pork, chili, bean soup, soy sauce chicken, beef stew; for the slow cooker, I make porridge, oatmeal, chicken & dumplings, chicken noodle soup, jambalaya. corned beef is the easiest and a favorite in the family but kinda pricey so only once in awhile--i buy it from costco, cover with water, pressure cook about 20 minutes on high for each pound, and then take the corned beef out, throw in potatoes, carrots and let that go for 5 minutes, and then throw in cabbage and cook that down in the saute function for 15 min or so. yum.

@kakimochi: Thank you!! It's taking forever to get shipped to my house!! I can't wait. So is brown rice on low pressure or high 20 minutes? Did you ever you cook things with rice all one time like a casserole?

I've only had mine a few weeks but I'm in love. Pulled pork, pulled chicken, bone broth and collard greens have worked well so far for us!

I'm still a newbie at it but I love my IP so much! My favourite thing to do is a whole chicken on the trivet (I think it takes 35 minutes) with some veg at the bottom with two cups water. My kids DEVOUR the chicken, it falls off the bone and my picky eater DD has at least three helpings. Plus you have chicken broth too!
I also love making yoghurt in it, because I tried every brand of natural yoghurt I could find with my baby boy and he refused them all. But he loved the yoghurt I made him, which made my mama heart happy

I got a pressure cooker for Christmas and have not even used it yet. I think the first thing I want to make is a roasted chicken.

I love making hard boiled eggs. They peel easy every time! I also make my chicken stock. Otherwise, rice and beans are great. Most soups that you make in the crockpot, you can make in the instant pot in a fraction of time. Risotto is so easy and delicious! Also, I started making yogurt. It's a bit time consuming but totally worth it. Love my Instant pot!

I'm thinking about getting one. Two questions:
1. Do you ever use the slow cooker function? I have a few slow cooker recipes I really like and don't want to give up! I like being able to prep dinner midday when the kids are playing or something and then be able to leave in the afternoon for a walk or something and not have to worry about dinner. Can you do risottos in it like the slow cooker? Or overnight steel cut oats?
2. Does the meat taste dry? I find my slow cooker often dries out meat. Like there is liquid in the pot and all, but the meat itself tastes dry. Just curious if it's the same effect.

Yes you can do risotto, steel cut and regular crock pot recipes. Haven't done anything yet but I read like 3 books on it.

And, I think it is helping me lose my baby weight too as I don't cook with oil when I'm using the pressure cooker. -
@jedeve: I have used the slow cooker function and it was really tasty. I did a few Skinnytaste recipes. Not at all a problem with dry meat, especially if you cook it with the pressure cooker. I've done both beef and chicken. The key, apparently, is to release the pressure naturally, not manually. Manually sucks the moisture out, so I read.

@periwinklebee: First time down! I started out nice and easy and made pasta for LOs mac and cheese. Low pressure and half the time as regular cooking. It came out perfecto! I'm famous for forgetting that I'm cooking so I am hoping to eliminate burning down the house and getting the cooking texture down to a science.
Question for the pros: it seemed to spurt liquid a bit during the Quick Release so I shut the valve waited half a minute and started the Quick Release again. I know I have to get the pasta out quick because it will keep cooking. Just wondering if this happens to you and if that's how you handle it.

@periwinklebee: I also made brown rice last night and it was delicious. I don't know if I am imagining things but everything is tasting better in a pressure cooker. I'm sold. Let me know how it turned out. I always believe recipes from 'real' people because then you learn the secret tweaks firsthand. No tricks to the brown rice. I did multigrain for 20 mins. NAtural release.

Is anyone using this pressure cooker? I find it hard to use and kind of intimidating--I can never tell when to release pressure and when it is actually cooking!

I have been on vacation this past weekend so only cooking 3 days with the IP but since then I have made mac and cheese, brown rice, stir fry, baked potato, vegetable soup and chili...nothing too fancy yet...just the basics but definitely putting it to good use. And it is easier to set and walk away, more fun and easy to clean up. So congrats to everyone who got the IP special today!

Question for anyone who makes hard boiled eggs in the IP, do they smell a lot more than if you made them on the stove? I love making them in the IP as they are so easy to peel and just easy to make but i find them smellier than normal.

Mine didn't smell. But then again, I didn't smell them and I put them in the fridge right away.
