Just found out DH's new job's insurance options are really crappy compared to what we have now. There are two options. For a family, one has a deductible of $6000 and one has a deductible of $7000 ('high-deductible" plan), both of which seem insanely high but perhaps I'm naive. They're $700 & $900 respectively per month in premiums. For the high deductible plan, they do pay a sum each month into a HSA that in a year would equal about $3000.
With a baby on the way in January, we'll have to pay our full deductible either way. This just seems super expensive, so I'm wandering if there are any insurance alternatives.
If you aren't using employer insurance, what's your plan like and how did you find it? I've always used insurance through my employer, so I'm at a loss about where to even start.
Also, you can tell me I'm naive and the plan options aren't that bad.
But one thing to clarify, the deductible, is that the individual deductible or the family deductible? My guess is that it's family, which doesn't mean that you would have that high for just YOU. It might be something like $2,000 individual/$6,000 family. Meaning your deductible would be $2,000 and then the remaining family members would each have $2,000 until the $6,000 total is met by 3 people.
