LO1, 27 months, has started having some seriously intense tantrums - screaming, hyperventilating, generally inconsolable. She's 2 and she has a new sister, so I was expecting this to a certain degree. But I'm a bit concerned about the length of the tantrum and her inability to calm down at all. In the past few weeks, she's had 3 tantrums that have lasted nearly an hour. I try to ignore it, keep calm and let her feel whatever she wants, but guys, it's frightening how intense they are and how long she stays at a level 10 of upset-ness. I'm honestly not sure if this type/length of tantrum is normal or if there is something else going on. Is this just being 2? Should I be worried?

My LO got his teeth fairly early all around 1 and then nothing for a year. Then at 2 had crazy tandrum for a few days couldn't figure it out. Turned out to be his 2 year old molars coming in so some baby Advil fixed that for us.
It might not the case for you but thought I would mention it.

Sounds normal to me! My son did this around that age. I read that there's this thing called spillover tantrums, where they're not tantrumming to get their way, they just have a lot of emotions built up and eventually lose it over some trifle.

This was normal in our house for awhile around that age. It was terrible. We would let him tantrum and just make sure he was safe (they usually started close to dinner time and we didn't want him to get hurt in the kitchen, so he had to go in the living room or his bedroom).
