I'm not sure where to post this, but news/opinion makes as much sense as anything. I had a comment on my blog this morning from a journalist who is doing an article on the possibility of Congress passing a ban on abortion after 20 weeks. She's interested in talking to me about our story for her article! I haven't got anymore information now, so I definitely need to check credentials, make sure it's legit, etc. But I think it's pretty cool. The reason my husband and I have been so open about everything was that it seemed like it made it a little less hard if some good came of it. So, you know, tentative yay!

This is great. We have a stigma in this country regarding the type of women who seek later term abortions, and you would definitely be a good choice to highlight why they need to be legal.

Oh wow! I love Mother Jones; totally legit outfit. It would be GREAT to get real stories out there of late term abortions to try to break down the lies and stereotypes. Mother Jones is a very left-leaning publication though, so it's going to be a lot of readers who already know the truth about late term abortions, and don't believe the political bs spewed by others.

@Torchwood: don't be nervous! I work in news, and I get nervous being on the other side interviewing people, haha. But it'll go great -- I'm sure she'll be very prepared with questions and it'll mostly just be a normal conversation, sharing your thoughts and your story. Good luck!!

I am so glad that this reporter is interviewing you. I never realized what the process entailed, or how hard it was to get one for legitimate medical reasons. I can't imagine what you went through. I think it's important for the general public to have this information and have a story like yours to contextualize what actually happens. Many never think of the person in your situation when they vote for laws that severely restrict the procedure or what you as a mother had to endure emotionally and physically with the procedure. I will be thinking of you tomorrow.

I think this is a great opportunity to get your story out there to a wider public. I know so many of us here were touched by what you went through. I think it would be wonderful if your story could help anyone else that is facing the same heartbreaking decisions. In addition it can definitely highlight the fact that late term abortion is never about a woman waking up one day and casually deciding she no longer wants her baby. Good luck and keep us updated.

Thanks to everyone for the support! The interview is in the morning; we had some scheduling conflicts today. Like I said, I'm nervous, but I'm excited too. My mom mentioned today actually going before Congress if this possible ban moves forward. I can't even imagine. ETA- To be clearer, I don't really see that ever happening. I don't even know how that happens. But it's really cool that I'm getting to share our story on a national level, and that I could even THINK about speaking out more.

In advance of the article, can I suggest to make sure that your social media accounts attached to your real name have the privacy settings set the way you want them to be? Just so that you can be safe from threats.
You might also want to google your own name before the story runs, if you haven't lately, to be prepared for anything that might come up in the results. (And then step away from the Google after the article runs, for sure.)
Is the reporter going to give you a heads up when the article is going to run?

Like others, I'm really glad you did this. Before hearing your story I never knew much about late term abortion and always assumed the worst about why someone might choose to do it. I hope that by having your story published you can enlighten even more people about why this is an important right.
