Has anyone else had this issue?
Been getting worse for months. Finally going to go to the Apple store and have them look at it. I am out of a warranty so I am afraid they are going to say I am out of luck.

Is it your home button? Or the one at the top? My husband had an issue with the home button and Apple replaced the phone even though it was out of warranty because it was a "known issue". I hope they do the same for you! Good luck!

@Emsmems: The top. I can't press it to "turn it off/blackout"

That happened with my iPhone 4 - the top on/off button stopped working completely. Hate to say it but you're likely outta luck. =/

Have you tried cleaning around the button with a q-tip and swabbing alcohol? My home button was sticky for months until I kept going over it with alcohol wipes.

There's a shortcut in settings that acts as the top button. I had to use it for months! I just can't remember exactly where it is right now. I'm sure you could google the shortcut.

@Mrs Green Grass: Thanks! I found it. A pain, but at least I can lock it now.
@Jasmine Green: I will try cleaning it tonight
@LindsayInNY: They wouldn't fix yours?

@Smurfette: No. I asked Apple support online (via chat) and was told it was a hardware issue. They said I could purchase a refurbished phone instead but my contact was already up for renewal so there was no point.

@LindsayInNY: @Smurfette: I brought my iphone 4 to the apple store when it first happened and they said it was a software issue. But it still wasn't fixed after they downloaded something to it, so I ended up googling alternative fixes and came upon the alcohol wipe method. It was my home button that was sticky, so I was able to keep rubbing it vigorously but I don't know how feasible it will be with the top lock button. Hope it works out for you!
