Reading your post made me *tick.* It's the equivalent of crying email *wolf* and it makes me crazy. @.@

For the most part, my work peeps use a standard font/size/color (set up by the IT folks), and there are so few that deviate from that, so I am pretty lucky in that regard.

Ha ha ha. I so feel your pain. We have a customer who will send us emails using one of those templates in Outlook. It always makes my reply emails tabbed in when I start replying. That drives me bonkers! We also have a customer who sends everything EVERYTHING in urgent status. When you send everything that way? Nothing is urgent anymore.

100 emails a day? Does she talk to people in person or just send emails all day long??

I can't stand when people use templates that are like attachments. Our email scanner is super-thorough that it makes it take much longer to open.

@autumnlove: I also work with a lady who does this!! Although she uses the hideous bright yellow highlight as a way to bring attention to the "most important" parts of the email. She also sits directly in front of me, so all she would hvae to do is turn around and mention it to me in person but she never does. She says she likes "documentation" to prove the discussion was had. It's ridiculous considering it is hardly ever something that needs documentation!

We have offices all over the world, and in some of the European offices some of the employees use exclamation points far too liberally. For example:

This should not be xyz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please correct!!!!!

I have a hard time explaining to them how rude that seems - to them I guess it's like underlining or bolding?

I have more of a problem with unnecessary parties being copied. A peeve, if I know you’re doing it to flex authority muscle at me.

@Rachel: That is so annoying!!!!!!! Overuse of exclamation points (or question marks, for that matter), seems (pathetically) dramatic and borderline rude . . . or at the very least ridiculous. The only thing worse would be TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS WHILE ALSO ABUSING PUNCTUATION!!!!!!

Best work email story:

A departing employee emailed the whole company a "so long and thanks for all the fish" email message. One of the higher ups replied all wishing him luck. About ten minutes later the HR director replied all admonishing the manger for 1) replying to the message, because other directors were angry about it, and 2) replying all.

I laughed for about a half hour straight, and it is still in my saved email folder.
