Is anyone else not bothered by popular names?

Not in the sense that I want to be different or original, but I would just hate for Sadie to always be "Sadie T." in school. I grew up with like five Katie's in every class. Sadie & Silas are both moving up in popularity, but I don't care much since I don't personally know anyone else with those names.

It doesn't really bother me. I knew when we chose LOs name (Harper), that it was "popular/trendy," but even with it being up there on the charts, in the entire year, there were only 200-some babies named that in our entire state.

I think some names seem trendy to me because I've been inline and stuff looking/searching them out, but for the vast majority of people, they've never really heard of them before.

@jedeve: our son is Charles and we call him Charlie. It's DH name so we obviously would love it even if it weren't as popular. This time, we are trying to chose a name that isn't trendy and not something any of our friends already have It's tough!

Having one of the most common names of my generation means that any name in the top 10 is super unappealing to me, even though years ago they may have been some of my favorite names.

I'm against top 100 because I'm scorned by having a trendy 80s girl name and always multiple people in classes with same name

That said, my #1 girl pick is currently top ten but has family meaning that trumps popularity for me.

We like known names but like them to be a little unique. If we fell in love with a top 10 names, we would use it

@oliviaoblivia: my husband is Brian, the guy next door is Brian and the other side next door neighbors have a son named Brian

We like the "popular" names because our rules are
    -Easy to say
    -Easy to read
    -Common spelling
    -Common name

A lot of the "off the charts" names are too unique for us, even if they're spelled normally.

Nope, it doesn't bother me if a name is popular. If we love it, its going on the list.

I'm not bothered by popular names. But I am not keen on trendy names.
