For anyone that’s bought a car through Costco is that really the best price? We’re looking at buying a second car and I’m wondering if that’s how we should do it

The best, no. Solid/good price, yes. Basically, if you hate haggling and are willing to pay a bit more because you hate haggling, go for it.

I wouldn't say it's the absolute best, but if you want a decent price and don't want to deal with a back-and-forth with the salesman or manager, then yes.
We bought a car two years ago and were going to go through the Costco Auto Buying Program (my husband is in upper management for Costco), but my husband is a haggler and we got a much better deal by talking it out ourselves.

We just bought a new car and through Costco it was only $750 off invoice. We got more than that off by negotiating and contacting a few dealerships. That being said I hate haggling and DH handled all of that. He did it all entirely through email, it was nice to not have to call or visit a bunch of dealerships.

A lot of people in my area go to brokers and apparently (tho not 100%) they get better deals than dealerships without the haggling, plus they will take your car and drop off your new car too!

@LadyDi: I tried emailing a dealer and they wouldn’t give me a price via email 🙄
@LadyDi: yah that doesn’t seem like much at all
@graceandjoy: I’ve never heard of that!

@graceandjoy: @gotkimchi: we bought our truck using a broker and it was the easiest purchase we've ever done! My husband was very specific in what he wanted and how much he wanted to pay. It took the broker a few weeks to find the truck but we got a great deal! Once we settled on the price (most communication was done via email with one or two phone calls), all we had to do was go sign the paper work. We were in and out in 15 minutes. It was so nice not dealing with car salesman and the haggling that goes with it.

@gotkimchi: I also beat the Costco price by contacting the internet sales manager at multiple dealerships. It was super easy but we live in a high density area do I had several dealerships to choose from. I contacted 7. If one wouldn't give me a price I would tell them my lowest and ask if they could beat that. Many told me I would never get the good deal I was offered. I was nice and said I'd be back back in touch if the deal didn't come through. In the end I got the good deal - and even had another dealership offering me $100 less when he heard I was in the parking lot of his competitor.

@Corduroy: I just got the Costco price from my preferred dealer and I’m not happy with it - we bought the same car from them for less before lol. We’ll see what happens. I’m definitely contacting multiple dealers

@gotkimchi: I can't believe he wouldn't give you a price over email! So annoying!

I’ve used edmunds.com multiple times for myself and family members. Just enter the make and model of the car you want and zip code. It’ll list local dealers, and you can have those dealerships contact you with a quote. No haggling involved. The internet sales manager will contact you through email, and sometimes you can use the quote against competing dealers to get a lower price.

Tried to use Costco when we bought our last car and it was only $1k less than the invoice. I ultimately negotiated about $7k more off and I hate negotiating. So I'm going to say no.

@Mommy Finger: damn that sounds like a good deal!!
This Costco price was 1605 off msrp - we negotiated another 3500 off and i was happy with that but maybe we should go for more.
This was very informative and a learning experience for me
