Is it considered safe? I'm talking dying, not just highlighting, where color is getting on your scalp. Did you wait until a certain trimester or until you had the baby?

I think it is a grey area. Super careful people would probably say no. But it isn't a "definitely don't." Personally I was not that worried about it. I had my hair done twice during pregnancy, once the day after I found out (I already had the appointment and honestly it never occurred to me not to have it done) and once near the end of my second trimester.

I did this...truthfully its on your scalp for so little time. I was not to worried.
I get my hair colored every 6-8 weeks - my Dr said "try to go during less peak times when the fumes wont be so bad...otherwise if it makes you feel good and happy then go ahead"

I just had it done at 16 weeks. I figured after the first tri was fine. I did it in my last pregnancy too. I went all summer with horrible gray streaks in my dark hair - it was a necessity! I'm planning on getting it professionally done at least once more close to my due date.

It is such a grey area! I have my appt. next week, I'll be 12 weeks. I was such a stickler my last pregnancy and even gave a preggo friend of mine a hard time about getting highlights early in her pregnancy and look at me now! I didn't get my hair done my entire first pregnancy!! Second pregnancy I'm way less scared to "take a risk" I guess. Like the pp said, it's not on your head long and if the fumes aren't strong then it should be ok. I certainly don't want to cause any harm to the baby! But there's such mixed responses on the Internet.

Yes, I think it's safe. With the number of women who color their hair, and the number of women who color women's hair; I feel pretty sure we would know if it was a toxic danger.

I don't worry about it. Colored my hair last time and will do it again this time.

I would not think twice about coloring my hair during pregnancy. Not a big deal in my opinion.

As long as the salon is well ventilated, I wouldn't worry about it

Not a concern for me, especially in a salon. My midwife told me to just make sure I was in a well-ventilated area.

I think it is completely safe. I did highlights because that's what I do anyways, but I would have had no problems with dying it.

I don't see a problem. I get highlights, but If I got dye I would do that also. Idk about you all, but my hair looks awful during pregnancy. My hair dresser said she knew I was pregnant just by how much my hair has changed and I was only 7 weeks at the time. So, yeah, not giving up hair coloring!!

It makes me nervous although I feel like in my brain it should be totally safe, I'm just a "what if" kind of person. Personally I am holding off. But I drink caffeine and sips of beer so... I make no sense! I think it's probably fine!
