Pasteurized cheese is fine. You'd be hard pressed to find unpasteurized cheese in any regular grocery store.

Exactly what @weagle said. Unless you're in a really fancy restaurant, you'd have a hard time finding cheese that is "unsafe."

I've been told all pastuerized cheese or hard cheese is okay. And like @Weagle said, you'll be hard pressed to find unpasteurized cheese that isn't aged (unless it's at a farmers market or from a friend or something like that). I'm a bit of a cheese freak and couldn't do without cheese for 9 months Plus (not to scare you), but the concern with soft cheeses is listeria and the most recent listeria outbreaks have been with hummus, walnuts, cantaloupe and cheese from Delaware (no offense to Delaware, but they aren't known for their cheese...).

I wouldn't worry about cheese you buy in a grocery store in the US. Although with the recent listeria outbreak with hummus....gosh you never really can be sure.

I definitely ate it...love me some fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and basil!

Pasteurization and proper storage is what makes cheese safe or unsafe. I ate everything regardless of soft or not.

The nhs says the only cheese that isnt safe is with white rind like bri unless cooked and blue cheeses like stilton.

You can enjoy it
@Snowdrop: I usually just get brie / camembert that specifically says it's made from pasteurized milk.
