The MTO (our version of DMV) lady in my town is infamous for being a crazy cat lady who makes you wait forever. She is the worst ever, and I avoid going there at all costs.

Yes! The last time my husband went to the DPS he was there for four hours. It's ridiculous.

Yeah - I think just about every DMV is like this! Arg.
What I don't understand is the people who show up and wait in line for hours, but don't think to like make sure they have the right paperwork with them. They just walk up there with their wallets and hope for the best, and they have to get turned away because they don't have any of the correct documents. Wouldn't you look into that before wasting your time in line?

Shockingly, no. Both times I've been to the DMV here it's been very quick and seamless. But I should note that because of my grad student schedule, I was able to go at random times, not at what I'm assuming are the busiest hours (i.e., when people who work typical nine-to-fives have to go).

I'm dreading it. I have to go to the Social Security office to get a new card (I'm working on changing my name...blah), THEN go to the DMV for my license...nooooooo.

The DMV where we are now isn't so bad. Where my parents live the DMV only comes to town twice a month so it's always a complete nightmare.

I don't mind it! I live in a pretty big metro area and have found that certain locations aren't as bad as others, so when I have to go I do it first thing in the morning at the location near my parents' house (which is 30-40 minutes from mine) and am usually out in half an hour!

The one in the "city" (I use that world loosely) and the one near my house are totally opposite. The one in town is mainly where all of the illegal workers hang out for whatever reason and the line is always wrapped around the building. I get uncomfortable going there. The one closer to my house now is usually a 5-10min wait.
