It's a deal breaker for us. The maintenance is a PITA, and SIL and BIL have one that we are free to use whenever. We also have a family cottage at the lake, so it just doesn't make sense for us to have a pool.
If our dream house had one we'd only be willing to purchase if it was a saltwater pool, but ideally we don't want one.

We have one and I could take it or leave it. Now my boys, they it! {Southern California = long pool season}

It's a must have in our dream home. Salt water, please! And it'll only be when the kids are older and we have a fenced in yard. I cannot wait to have one again.

I think it would be so nice to have! But DH, who has actually lived in a house with a pool and his chores included maintaining it, says it's a dealbreaker and too much work. Sigh. Someday we'll compromise on a hot tub

We only have a few months to use a pool so I would rather live in a neighborhood with a community pool within walking distance.

I am anti-pool until kids are old enough so that I don't have to worry about it as a safety issue and they can help clean it.

Definitely a deal breaker until my boys are older. My husband on the other hand would kill to have one, since we have swim weather about 9-10 months of the year. We do swim lessons once a week and have Y membership, so we have pool access regularly.

We would both like to have a small pool when we buy/build our forever home. We have a May-September swim season. I'd definitely hire someone to open/close it though!

We don't have time to deal with a pool. Our neighbors have one and have offered us the use of it when it's open, but we have like 3 weeks of weather per year that are really pool-worthy so some summers they don't even bother to open it.

I would enjoy it if I had one, but I wouldn't seek out a pool. My mother has a nice pool and we swim there every other week or so in the summer.

Total dealbreaker. We don't want to deal with the maintenance and costs of having a pool. And I definitely don't want one when the kids are small. I don't worry much, but kids drowning is one of my biggest fears. They go down so silently...

Dealbreaker for me. We have MANY months of pool weather here but both my mom and MIL have pools that we can use regularly. I don't want to deal with the maintenance but the main thing is that I'm a huge worrier and I'd be terrified all the time. I'd consider having one if we end up moving when our kids are teenagers or older but...probably not.

I live in Texas but I still don't want a pool. I don't want to have to deal with the upkeep. Also, I'm paranoid and having (future) small children around a pool all the time just makes me nervous!

I lean towards a pool being a "must have." Or at least a yard big enough to accommodate a pool that I can float in. If I can swim laps in it, that's a plus. But I live in SoCal. Its basically pool weather all year long if you have a pool heater.
