I've heard over and over again that 3 is the hardest number. We always planmed on 3 but we might be done at 2.

My parents had 3, and lots of other families I know have 3 kids. My dad told me I should only have 2 because 3 is "too many". This is coming from the guy who had 5 (he had 2 others at a young age), and he currently has 3...hmm hypocrite? I think you should have however many kiddos you and DH want

My parents had three also. I thought it was fine...I'm the youngest.

We want to two and through ONLY if they're one boy and one girl. Otherwise, we'd try for a third. I'm interested to see what mom's of 3 or bees that are part of a trio have to say about this though!

I am one of three and I loved it, and it is the same reason I want three! I am the middle child, but I am also the only girl so we each had something special...you were either oldest, youngest, or the only daughter I am very close with both of my brothers (there are 2.5 years between the oldest and I, 3 years between the youngest and I).

That is the reason I wont have an odd number. I've also heard that it is much harder to parent 3 than 2 because the parents are outnumbered then lol

It does make it harder to not have even numbers. I feel like one of us always felt left out at some point or another.

I never really thought about this much, but I'm #3 of 5 and I was definitely the middle child-- my old brother and sister were less than 2 years apart, then 4 years until me, 3 to my next sister, and they are 2 years apart-- so the two biggest age gaps were around me. I think that was the biggest thing about me being 'left out'-- the older ones were in college, the younger ones were in elementary school, and I was in high school-- there was just a big age and maturity difference. However, my older sister has always been my best friend still, even with our age difference. I really think if my parents had stopped at 4, my younger sister would have been the left out one, because her personality was just different from ours.

DH is one of 3 brothers and he has said that growing up, often it would be 2 against 1, but it changed who was pairing up. Now he's way closer to one brother, but they live near each other and the other one is across the country.

So I say it's fine. But the kids outnumbering parents and the traveling difficulties are the things that make me think 2 will be enough for us.

I have never wanted to have 3 because of this theory. I had 2 sisters growing up and one was always left out, so I really really was against having 3 girls. Well guess what I got, 3 girls. And there is no way we are having a 4th-DH is wanting to be done and we can't swing it financially.

Mine are spaced out quit a bit though, they are 10, 4, and the newborn. I am hoping once the oldest is not wanting to play with her younger sister than my middle and youngest will play together and my oldest will be busy being a moody teenager to care too much of what they are up to:)

I am one of three kids and the middle child to boot! With an older sister and a younger brother I always used to joke that I was nothing special, not the oldest, not the youngest, and not the first/only girl! I loved it though. My sister and I are only 13 months apart and we've always gotten along really well; my brother and I are pretty close too. actually, we're all really close.As someone else said, the three of us would squabble and gang up 2 on 1 sometimes, but it was a different combo all the time so it never was a big deal.

My mom was also hyper aware of middle child syndrome (she's a middle child too, although the only girl) so she made a special effort to shower me with just that little bit of extra attention.

We are aiming for three kids - we think it's a great number and would be perfect for our family.

i have heard that the transition from 2 to 3 is the hardest because you're outnumbered. after 3, it doesn't matter if you have 4+ because the oldest is more independent at that point.

we're 2 and done for sure... we're not tough enough to handle 3!

I'm one of two sets of three. I'm the oldest and only child my parents had together. They both went on to have two more with my stepparents. I get along great with all of my siblings. My husband wants 3 or more. I'm not sure how many we will have yet.

We are leaning towards 3 i think (none yet!) we both are from families of 3. I'm the oldest and were are really close in age: 24, 23, 21 (me, sister, brother). DH is the middle: 27, 24, 20 (brother, DH, sister).

We ganged up on each other when we were younger, but as other have mentioned, it was always different and never just two of us ganging up on one person.

I was a third child but I felt left out because of the huge age difference between me and my siblings. My brother's seven years older, my sister is five years older. They're sixteen months apart, so they grew up really close. I was jealous of it because my sister often acted more like a second mother than a sister.

That being said, we're considering three. Henry and this next LO will be about fourteen months apart. I think if we make sure the third one is born a few years from now, say by 2016, we'll be fine and so will our little family. But we might stop after two. I would like three but it depends on our ability to support three.

I hated being in the middle of 3. The oldest is doing something new and exciting. The youngest is the baby. I want 2 or 4. Two they only have one sibling, but four is so many!

I would rather have 4 than 3. DH and I both came from families of 3 siblings, and we tend to thing someone was generally left out. Part of it I'm sure is that you often end up with two of one gender and one of the other.

I grew up in a family of 3 kids. I was the oldest. We all had the best relationship and the only negative was that when we went to the fair, someone had to ride with mom or ride alone. I am actually likely to have 3-4 kids and have no worries about just 3.
